Radiohead Beats Hacker And Donates Money to Extinction Rebellion

Radiohead have released hours of recordings instead of paying ransom money to a hacker who stole them.     Just last week, an unknown hacker stole unreleased recordings of Radiohead. Thom Yorke had recordings on 18 MiniDiscs of music recorded during the recording of OK Computer. Most of the recordings were an hour long. Spotify To Allow Indie Artists To Upload Directly

According to Billboard, starting today, 20th September, Spotify is to allow independent artists to bypass distributors and upload directly to their streaming service via their Spotify For Artists account.   Direct upload will initially be made available to a small group of a few hundred invited U.S.-based artists. Other artists can sign up for a mailing list, to be invited over the coming weeks.

Ascap Report Shows That Growth Continues

ASCAP has just released their 2009 financial results showing continuing growth for the performing rights organization. In 2009 ASCAP reports that it collected more than $995 million, an almost $50 million increase from the $946.7 million collected in 2008. Their foreign revenue grew to nearly $302 million. ASCAP made royalty payments to their 380,000-plus members during 2009 totalling more than $863 million, a significant increase than the $818.9 million distributed to members during 2008.
