Thanks tunesmithth. I hear what you're saying about communication with the band. It's actually not something anyone gets hung up on - thankfully. Thing is, just what should the proper label be? I wanted to find an answer or at least create one. So far, I've not come across a definitive answer. I'd really love to come up with a term that could work for everyone. A verse is a verse. A chorus a chorus. Clear as day what they are. But these sub-parts . . Oooo . . . gray and cloudy.
Interlude and passage don't quite fit the definition that I'm trying to nail down. Since this part is really a sub-section of a standard song part, interlude doen't quite work here. Passage kind of works, but it's meaning is quite broad. Something more specific is needed.
Brainstorming:
Verse Opening
Verse-Intro
Pre-Verse-Instrumental
Verse-front
Fore-Verse
Verse-Opening-Instrumental
Verse Instrumental OpeningVerse Phrase Instrumental
Verse Opening (non-Vocal)
Verse Musical

another factor on how to voice your piano chord would be to consider how you want the piano part to function in your arrangement. Is it comping under a vocal line or is it supporting a hook or other musical passage? Maybe keep it smoother under the vocal. Maybe more stylized to make it stand out more.

In band rehearsal, I've been saying "Okay guys. Play through the verse chords one time without vocals". Any ideas on what to call this little non-vocal verse part? I'm looking for a unique label.
This part comes before the verse, either after an intro, a chorus, or between verses.
The band members in this band can't read proper musical charts. Easy to understand labels help a lot.
Here's an example from a simple chart I might use for rehearsing with the band:
Part Pattern (Chord Progression)
Chorus 1 2XVerse 1X (no vocal)Verse 2 2XExtension D#DimChorus 2 2XAny suggestions welcome.

Need A Verse Part Label

By the way, thanks for the link. I listened to your first song recording. Tascam . . I had one of those. The song, by the way, was nice. I could hear it being done in a modern country rock style - and maybe a little surprise twist just at the end of the lyric.
Don't mind me . . . just got inspired:
I get up & start another day
You’re not here to tell me it’s OK
I should have known you didn’t love me
You’d think I’d know by now
You're leavin' town…. and you'll never slow down!
