  1. I keep it simple... instead of a thousand mainly sub par plugins... I stick to high quality but just what I really need. Like my neural dsp amp vst (can't live without) a full Izotope suite. A full Eventide suite. Melondyne studio. And my Reaper DAW... I do have amplitude 5 & Strack pack. That I use on occasion. And the Stienberg mastering plugins that come with wavelab.

Ohhh I have U-He diva and EZ drummer3.

But I stick to the same plugins mostly.

I really have learned that less can be more 99% of the time

  3. Steve Klatt has been playing guitar for over 30 years. He has toured half way across Canada, with several different bands. Opening for many well know acts. Steve's early roots can be linked back to bands such as Black Sabbath, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Ozzy, ect.... Soon Steve learned to appreciate great guitar players and their abilities, he began to find influences in players such as John Petrucci, Yngwie Mamlsteen, Steve Vai, Steve Howe, Alex Lifeson...ect Currently Steve enjoys different types of music. "I really love Prog-rock, and the great style and complexity of there music. I also still love to listen to and play hard rock" As of now Steve is listening to Queensryche, Faith no More, Avenged Sevenfold, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Rush, Guns N Roses, Five Finger Death Punch, Steve Vai. even artists such as Van Halen, Deep Purple,Tool and Primus. He has settled down and is raising a family now, but he still very much enjoys playing and recording. " I have been working on a bunch of songs (some can be heard on this site) and I am collaborating with some other great musicians. Some song were recorded back in 2009-2012. Now Steve is back in the studio for 2023. Already a few new things released and much more to come Steve would like to thank the musicians that have helped him over the years. "I couldn't have got to this point without you" J.Sin Cardinal, Roger Verdon, Scott Kerr, Stephen Fleet......and the many other that helped shaped my playing style over the years. And thanks for everything Bernard Gelinas (R.I.P) as well as my parents. A Special thanks to my wonderful wife Crystal Klatt, and our amazing children! who always love what I play! 4. Hello Bill,

Nice to have you on the forum.

I have used cakewalk before. I beilive I had to pay for it back in the day. It is a great daw.

I like things simple. I mainly use acid pro these days.

Neuendo is great to, but gets a little more complicated.

Enjoy your stay on the forum.

    Cheers!

LOL... Well, I doubt we'll ever see another Neil Peart...

Huge RUSH fan here! Yeah', your friend's got a great voice :)

Well the energy in the drum is definitely lacking.. like the bass .. because they are cheap midi tracks... not even hitting all the right notes, let alone being real instruments. I mentioned that though. All good.

Awesome. Does he sound similar doing originals? I ask because while a natural singing voice like that will do brilliantly as a tribute band singer, they can have real problems doing originals because they sound too like a known singer.

What vocal tuner are you using?

I've listened to a few of your songs now, and kept in mind your original complaint about your own voice. I think your own voice deserves more credit than you give it... but you have yet to learn how to mix and produce your voice effectively. Many singer/producers are in the same boat. The good news for you is that if you specifically work on learning about vocal production your songs will hugely benefit.

There's a few things mix wise that you could really work on too that this song does highlight. At points you really do get it right. At other points... less so. The energy of your drums is lacking and the clarity of your low end is also lacking. The vocals however are generally placed very well. Clear and cutting through.

That said I really enjoyed the listen. So much I listened 3 times! lol

Here is an original song I wrote. I sing with my friend singing also... well I scream, he sings lol.

We use a little auto tune and some effects mixed in... I'm not very good with auto tune, so I had to use it sparingly... here's the song. It was written about my grandfather who passed away.

  7. I would like you thoughts on the vocals to this cover I did.

The singer is an old friend and bandmate of mine. I think he has an amazing voice to cover Rush.

Background... he lives far away, so I went to visit him for a day to try and record a few songs for fun.

The drums and bass are just midi crap and sound like crap. I play the guitars and my friend sang.

This was done in a few hours, I mainly want to hear what you think of the vocals. I know the production is garbage lol.

    Well here it is.

    Hey Steve

Welcome to Songstuff! Look forward to hearing your music. Even as a hobby, do you have any aims/goals for your music?

    Chees

    John

    Thanks!!

I posted one of my original songs in the critique my song section.

My goals are just to write music that means something to me... not really radio friendly, but a creative output to express myself.
