This is what I came up with.

I read a few of your lyrics, and I must say, they are completely wonderful and you have managed to change my mind about those kind of lyrics. I have always written about it in a journal, but now I'm convinced I can let some of it out for the public eye. Thank you!

Thank you! I will post the lyrics in the Lyric Critique forum eventually, I just don't have anything worth posting yet and wanted to get a second opinion beforehand.

I have kind of an emo personality and often it shows in my writing, especially when it comes to lyrics. I'm not trying to get any sympathy or anything, but I have struggled with self harm all my life. I would really like to write a song about it, but the only songs I can think of about self harm have been so "emo" that they're a joke. I'm just wondering what you guys think on the subject. Are there any ways you can advise me to write about the subject without it being cheesey?

That's a hard question...
Well for voice:
Amy Lee (from the band Evanescence) has such a beautiful voice that even I (who finds it necessary to sing along to everything) don't even open my mouth when I'm listening to an Evanescence song.
Hayley Williams (from the band Paramore) is an amazing singer; she has such a strong, distinct voice. I've never heard anything like it. (P.S.: I'm a total Parawhore!)
Regina Spektor has such a unique, interesting, voice. I'm completely in love with it. But, as someone above mentioned she has trouble staying in tune.
But for lyrics it's hands down Adam Young, better known as Owl City (Owl City is not a band, rather a 'stage name' for Adam) is so creative that most people, when listening to what he says, claims he must be on drugs. However, I have a super creative mind and I'm pretty sure I know EXACTLY what he's getting at!

I can write most anything. The things I write can normally be turned into whatever depending on how you sing it. If you want R&B, you can make it that

Oh, Selena, that's cool. We're opposite then, haha. I'm a better lyricist than vocalist. Maybe sometime we could collaborate.

Hey, welcome (:
I'm Carly; 16 years of age. What instrument(s) do you play? Or do you sing, or write lyrics?
I write lyrics and sing.
I'll check in when I see you post something Can't wait!

So... I'm new here. My name is Carly. Blah blah blah.... I can't sing for the life of me, and I don't play any instruments. But, I love to write poetry and lyrics. I live in the U.S.A., and I'm 16 years old by the way. I came here ... not to show off my talent or lack there of, but to express myself doing something I've loved to do since i was 6 or 7.
