  1. The trouble with your first guitar, especially acoustic, is that often you don't know enough to know exactly what you want, and so the choice of dreads, OM, OOO, parlours, not to mention pickups, is pretty overwhelming, and that's not taking into account the different wood types.

Like mentioned above. Put your 300 quid in your pocket and set aside a day to play all the acoustics in your price range in all the stores you can reasonably visit. Don't rule anything out. Ply top and sides, solid top ply sides, you might be able to find some all solids for your price. But the one that hits your eyes might not be the one that hits your ears.

    Good luck. It's great fun...

  2. Kits are a great way to get into building. You've got everything you need to make a decent guitar, and you probably won't notice the differences between it and a 'good' guitar until you play it for a while.

My only comment is.... it's a slippery slope. You'll build one, then you'll change the tuners, then replace pickups, then want a HSS, then want to redo the wiring to have a volume on all three knobs, then want a tele, then get templates to cut your own bodies and necks out of a whole pile of different woods.... etc. Great fun though.

  3. hello. I'm Brendan, I'm from the south coast of Western Australia, and I'm joining this forum in a hope to spur me into converting some of the stuff I wrote previously into songs. Most of my efforts to put the words to music sound very nursery rhyme like, and I want to grow that.

I'm married since 2003 to a beautiful woman, have three beautiful kids, 11 yo boy, 5 yo girl and a 6month old girl, with another coming in 4 1/2 months. AS most parents can understand, time is not on my side!!!

I play guitar, occasionally in my small church (40 regulars), but mostly at home, on my own, after the kids are in bed.

I'm looking forward to this ride, I hope we can all get something out of it.
