All kidding aside, I agree with you, Steve. Their music has endured in its original form nearly 40 years after their breakup and that's no accident. Not to mention the influence it's had on subsequent bands and writers. That kind of longevity just doesn't happen with 'fluff' music.

'Disposable music' is what I usually call it. The vast majority of recent pop music fits the category, and the notable exceptions are songs you can usually tell right away will still be around in more than a year.
