Yet Another Jazz Guitar

Recommended Posts

I should really avoid Ebay.

I love my current Eddie Durham JX17 but it's not the jazz box of my dreams, so I got another Eddie Durham.  This time it's the JX16

You already have it?

This is the oddly monikered ‘Guitar Research’ model. Looks like a Gibson 175?

You don’t hang about Mike. So what’s it like? :specool:

I have the JX17

The 17 is a 17inch body with a venetian cut away and a single mini-humbucker. The tone is more reminiscent of '30's and ' 40's jazz guitars. It's a solid carved top and back.  The tone is more mellow and acoustic archtop sounding (even when amplified) with a less "compressed" character.

The 17inch model is very similar to Wes Montgomery's L5 (though WM had humbuckers mounted to the body rather then floating)

The 16in is slightly smaller. features a Florentine cutaway and two humbuckers. The top and back are laminate as were the original es-175's

The tonal response has a deeper yet compressed bass response (not as floppy) without sacrificing mids or highs.  It also has an ever so slightly faster/crisper attack then the 17inch
