Mac users

Hopefully Kurty will see this post cause he is a Mac expert.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Lol Tom! Yup, Macs rock (been a Mac user since 1985) .. now running a G-5 with OSX Tiger, and is truly astounding. (I also still use an older G-4 that I can still use my older scsi devices with, though it gets used perhaps twice a month versus 6-10 hours per day of use on the G-5)

Cheers

Hey Rudi.

So you're about to become a MacNoid?

Hard to envisage you having too many problems. Windows was intended to emulate the example of Mac interface re intuitive ease of use, remember, so if you've been using the Bill Gates packages up 'til now, I guess you'll find the migration pretty straight ahead and will have little need for a manual.

Every other MacNoid I know regards their machine as far superior to MS although, to me, they both do the same job in pretty much the same way. But I guess there are reasons why Mac has long been the standard industry platform in recording and design.

One clear advantage is the absence of viruses and trojans and such.

I think the "Dummies" series of books is good all round.

Maybe they have one for the Mac?

I have used PCs for far too long, and despised them with a passion.

I have always felt like like a victim, not a user. My PC was custom built for music. Ive never produced anything with it that didnt have major problems. Stereo failure, hiss, distortion, synching etc. etc. Result, no music at all. A waste of effort and money.

I freely admit I dont have the patience to put myself through whatever it takes to iron these problems out. Its as much as I can do to spend half of my time at the damned thing hunting spyware, viruses; stopping pop-ups and trying to get cooperation from 3rd party developers & pratting around with the registry.

But I was spoilt to start with. I used to use an Amiga. I still had to deal with the odd problem, but I had CONTROL. The way I see it, I cant fare any worse with a Mac.

Books: I'll take a look around the library 1st I think.

  • 1 month later...

ok, I got it and I know nothing...

Well had a quick play after I set it up. I had it freeze up after 10 minutes (is that some sort of record?).

This is a G5 running Tiger.

I had a quick go at GarageBand, but there are NO MANUALS! Got two tracks going with piano & guitar but didnt manage to sync em up.

Pulled some pictures in by attaching my camera (didnt need the Nikon software, -iPhoto did it).

Cant discern a full directory tree structure, and the mouse only has one button.

I must get along to the library...
