What singers inspire you?

I'm sure we've all got certain artists that we look upto and are brown away by the skill and vocal prowess every time they sing.

 

Who is it? And why? What was the first song you heard from that particular artist?

One of my most favorite contemporary vocalists is JP Cooper. He's not that known around but the voice and his control over it astonishes me. 

 

 

 

Jeff Buckley is another one that comes to mind.

 

 

 

 

 

Having said that, one of my most favorite vocalists is Antwaun Stanley who sings with the funk band vulfpeck. He's definitely one of those role models for me. Though this song is not from vulf, this was the first song I heard from him. It shows off all that skill Antwaun possesses so well.

Eva Cassidy - She's so adaptable, has a clear, strong voice, has a beautiful sound, bluesy when needed, and just has a beautiful sound in her tones.  She can go from intense to soft so easily.

Norah Jones is also very inspiring.  She so chill and has a such a soothing sound.

Tricia Yearwood was one of my beginning inspirations.  She has a powerful voice and yet I "hear" she was backup singer for years before she was a lead vocalist.

 

 

Other female vocalists that have been inspiring are harmonizers like, Naomi and Wynona Judd (The Judds), Linda Rondstat, Dolly  Parton and Emmylou Harris (The Trio) and of course Alison Krause -- All those ladies are stand-alone excellent vocalists.

 

I also find Patsy Cline, Sarah MacLaughlin, Kelly Clarkson, Pat Benetar, and Pink to be incredible vocalists.
