"Let Go" - my track covered by a German electronica artist

I contacted a German songwriter via YouTube in 2020 and ended up providing him with an English translation for one of his songs that I liked (the full story and lyric files are in the "Writing Challenges" category).

 

I later asked him if he'd care to cover one of my songs in German and in his own style (which is synth/electronic). "Let Go" was HIS choice and, so he didn't have to start from scratch, I sent him the stems.  The piano MIDI was the biggest time save for him.  I was thrilled with the result.  A very different approach from mine, but still very musical.

Which, for me, was great. 

I've never understood the rationale behind spending time/effort on doing a cover that simply recreates the original.

?  Translation?  If so, to/from which languages?  Someone covering your song, or vice-versa?
