  1. Have a look at the song, I posted it in the previous comment.
  2. Here is a link so you guys can hear what I was describing. This is the first track on my Solitude album. https://soundcloud.com/anotherlostking/again-solitude
  3. After much soul-searching, I found a style that fits me, but I don't know what to call it. Basically it goes like this: The entire song is layers of me singing, harmonizing, or humming different parts. The drums are synthetic, with a (mostly) upbeat/dramatic feeling. When I finish, you hear a multitude of vocals at one time... an orchestra of my voice, if you will. I have no idea what the f*ck to call it, but I love doing it. I think I am going to actually go wit this style. I will try to post some finished songs soon. Any thoughts?
  4. It was a (hopefully) royalty free photo. It looked nothing like that when I found it, so I think I could get away with using it. It's like remixing music. Publishing a song under your name that you didn't make is illegal. But when you edit it enough, it is a remix. I think I am going to go with some ambient club music or something like that. Maybe with some jazz influence. Definitely a mix of electronic. Did you look forward through the thread to the other two designs?

  6. I got a big one for anyone following this thread. I have taken the feedback from HS, Zson, and Rudi in order to get my final product. I decided to shorten the name of the collection from "The Castle EP" to just "Castles". I went and looked at a gallery of album covers and got an idea for mine. So here is my dream-like cover, completely complete.
  7. I welcome all criticism! As to what you said, what if I made every word in my name a different font? And I was going for a dream-like feeling with that logo. Did I do something wrong? What exactly should I do to improve on that image?
  8. I see. The reason I used that image is because I wanted something I could edit enough to avoid image copyright laws. Plus, I think it was advertising on a real-estate site, so the image wasn't copyrighted in the first place. But you can never be too sure. I will keep looking for an image that I can edit enough to avoid lawsuits.
  9. That's f*cking genius. Give me a minute to make a mock-up.
  10. Well both fonts were downloaded from dafont.com. I can easily cut the sides back to make it square. And as for the name, I see what you mean. I should change the font for lost and king to give it some variation.
  11. This is a poster/cover I made for my upcoming EP (containing 5 tracks). Thoughts and criticisms would be appreciated.
  12. So this is what I am taking from these replies: Soundproof the walls of my room in the basement or create a booth to record in and soundproof that. Get a Rode NT 2 microphone (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006ML3N0). ** What cables come with the NT 2? Can I plug it up to my computer and use it as a normal mic, or is there more I should do? Remove sources of noise (my PC has a great power supply and is nearly silent). Questions: What is phantom power? What is sound damping? Would I be fine with just getting the mic and soundproofing my room (filters can do wonders)? Sorry for sounding really inexperienced, but the truth is that I don't really have a history of recording vocals or outside instruments. I mainly produce music (DAW), not record it.

    Another one...
  15. You need to find a producer or someone good with audio mixing/mastering who can put your vocals and the song together... better? You need a better mic. You should try to work on your timing/tempo. In the beginning it sounded a little off-beat. You are singing so quietly that it is hard to get an overall feel for your voice. You were a little pitchy in a couple parts, especially when on the higher notes. Overall I give the whole thing a 4.5/10 but you have potential if you work on it and spend a little on a new mic. My two cents.
  16. I forgot to ask cheap ways to soundproof the inside/outside of a room to keep my sound in and other sounds out.
  17. Notes: I currently have my PC set up in the main room of my house. I usually record after everyone is asleep. I will be moving into our concrete basement soon. Hardware: My microphone is a Blue Snowball; I use a circular pop filter with it. Concerns: In the main room, the mic picks up a small bit of noise from the air vents and cars outside (but a noise filter usually helps). In the basement, the mic will most likely pick up every floorboard creak from upstairs. I was told the Blue Snowball is a great microphone for game commentaries, vocal recordings, etc. But I understand it is nowhere near as good as a studio microphone. Questions: I am looking for low-cost or no-cost (i.e. household stuff) ways to improve my vocal recordings. I want rich vocals with little to no background noise. Bonus: After I finish building my new PC, I will start investing more heavily into my musical passions. Ignoring price-tags, what microphone would you recommend for a studio setting? What is the best USB mic and non-USB mic?
  18. "What are you watching?" "Cockburn's newest video." Not sure how I would react to someone telling me they loved Cockburn. But it would be different.

  20. Thank you so much. This gave me a new outlook on song structure. As a side-note: my favorite genres to produce for myself are midieval/dark classical with modern elements (low synths, electronic backing synths, etc.). I think song structure is really based on what genre you are producing.
