  1. that's it! Beatles.. I was pretty sure that pre-chorus riff (:51) sounded familiar to me but I couldn't place it so I kept playing it. Do you recall which song?

I am happy you enjoyed the chorus part. That's my favorite part too.. this clip here was a result of me finishing up some beer tasting (for science!) and "rocking up" this song that I started a few months ago as a joke:

I started playing music with a couple of guys and thought I would bring this song if I could work out the parts. I'll keep spit balling ideas and hopefully finish out the song solidly.

    Thanks for listening and responding!

    No prob. I dig it.

The song in question is "I Want You" (She's So Heavy)

I can't wait to hear the final cut...

"Don't Take The Sky" sounds great, kinda Dark just the way I like it.

  2. Hmmm Wow, Ummmm

I didn't know whether to think The Beatles or Black Sabbath....until 1:08 and that is a nice section that really could be exploited and made Incredible.

I really like this Song. "Mistakes' were made" maybe a few but it didn't really matter much and it's hard to tell given the way you presented it.

    Cool Stuff Man,

    Interesting Title btw

  3. Thanks Tom,

Yes this helps a lot. Especially how you listen to trial mixes.

I usually run the EQ flat but have had 2 HD crashes and when I finally got my system back up.

Nothing is the way I had/remember it.

I usually mix on headphones (I know) I have KRK monitors but rarely use em I think they have some compensation.

I am going to look into the software that analyzes your room and helps you correct and adjust for inconsistency.

    Thanks again Sir,

  4. Well the 2014 Synthopia votes are all in. I'm not convinced that this is a good cross section as it depends on who votes. Not all users vote on this of course. I would have expected Logic to be popular...with the price point, reliability and popularity of Apple computers....with Fruity loops...meh....I think they launched a huge pre election campaign :) And Bitwig?? Really??

How fair do you think the results are?

    Looks like a Popularity contest?

    Is it mainly U.S. users?

    What are the criteria?

  5. I have switched totally to Carvin in-ear monitors and love them. Less equipment to haul, and my mixer lets each musician control their own individual monitor mix using an ipad or smartphone so "more me" is no longer a pain in the ass. My mixer is also controlled by an ipad and that eleminates the need for an audio snake, I just set the mixer stage-side and the soundman walks around the room with his ipad, setting all the mix.

  6. Hey folks I was just wondering if Y'all disabble the system sound enhancements.

My system uses Realtek High Definition Audio and has an EQ which if I turn off

    while mixing it sounds HORRIBLE.

I could Mix to make it sound good with it off but when I turn it back on?

I just was wondering how Y'all deal with your system Sound Card.

    Thanks,

  7. I would post a song or two on this site for review if I were you. The feedback from these folks is awesome as well as Very Valuable

As far as Taxi is concerned I am not recomending nor dissing them but the band "Crossfade" was signed from a Taxi submission

and Randy Bachman is a member. One thing I will say If you do decide to join (Taxi) and submit material, Your stuff better be Really Good they are a tough nut to crack. Which is why I think so many think it is a scam.

Also there are Thousands maybe Milloions of Bands, Singers Songwriters etc. the percentage of those getting signed is

well to be honest I have no idea.

You can always go the route of doing it yourself others have done it. The success rate of the thousands that do? I have no clue.

The most important thing is don't give up no matter what the odds.

You may be the next big deal.

  8. On a serious note I'm not much of a story teller so most of my lyrics just come to me.

usually when I go to bed and as I am fallling asleep or I will wake up in the middle of the night.

Ocasionally I will wake up in the morning with a Melody and Hook running through my mind.

I also will go for a long drive while trying to refine or rewrite Lyrics. It really works well for me.

    Great Topic BTW,

    EJB

  9. You have a decent start with the # of lyrics you've written, but what you're talking about is an uphill struggle, so be aware... first, nobody (with a capital "NO"), in the industry is looking for lyrics only, so approaching record companies and/or semi-established artists looking for co-writes is pretty much out of the question. The other thing about that is that it doesn't matter if you're lyrics are "better" than what you hear on the radio. In pop & r&b the lyric is a distant second to the music, and even in country, which is much more lyric-driven than the others mentioned, the music is a huge consideration. In either case, the lyric is often judged on the basis of style and tone and how appropriate it is for a particular artist. Everybody wants songs that are ready to record... the way is much brighter if you can hook up with a composer who will co-write with you and help push the finished songs. Better yet, if you can hook up with an up-and-coming performer who needs help on the lyric-side. None of this should discourage you, just make you realize that you have a certain amount of business & networking legwork ahead of you to get where you want to be.

Generally composer & lyricist share 50/50... the finished song would be registered with both persons as authors. If you've already registered the lyric by itself it might require a revision of some kind, refer to www.copyright.gov... I would only worry about the laws of the US (because it's the biggest market, and the laws are peculiar) and whatever country or countries you're actually operating in.

There are a lot of people who offer to compose music for a fee, and you shouldn't bother with these, because generally the music isn't very good, but that would be a work-for-hire (get it in writing), and no authorship rights would go to the composer. A legitimate co-write shares expenses and proceeds 50/50, as mentioned above. I can't imagine a situation where money would change hands before a song is ready to demo. Which is another thing to watch out for, people who offer to compose music for you, and make you pay way too much for a poor-quality demo...

I belive it would be more like the Lyric/Melody writer 50% Composer 50%

if you just contribute the lyrics I am not sure that is 50%.

But then it would all be in an agreement between the persons involved.

  10. Thank You Dek, your opinion means a great deal to me.

The point I was trying to make is that the vocal part is a loop and as the chords change the Melody apperars to

change but doesn't it is still the same vocal part. (I hope I am making sense, I think I have myself confused).

    EJB

Yea there is more, this is not how the song eventually will sound.

I was just experimenting. When I am done I'll post it up if it sounds good enough.

Also, I have a better example with Guitar but I don't have it finished.

  11. I would think that everyone on this site should be interested in this topic and should see this Video.

I know there is a bill in front of Congress right now to change the compensation for Songwrighters

but personally I don't think that is going to be enough.

Thank You for posting this Donna,

    EJB

  12. Sounds like a deep snare 6 1/2 to 8 inches. Ambassador skin on top with a fair amount of muffling. Snare wires set so that it's a couple turns loser than choked. Tuned medium tension not loose but not cranked.

There's a good smack to it so sounds like a fair amount of compression on the top mic. There's also a tambourine here and  there.

Chris makes a good point about the Tamb, that  and the hats can change the perception of the snare sound when hit at the same time.

Also in most drum progs these days ie; EZ/Superior Drummer or SSD you can use 2 snare drums to customize a drums sound.
