  1. You are going to have to disassociate your song from the other one somehow or other. Try this for starters:

Change the key from major to minor or vice-versa. You might not like the result but it will transform the music without altering the melody.

Example: if the key is in A min then change it to C maj (or the other way around). It can be done with individual chords or for the whole song.

If you need more info on this, let us know.

    Good luck

    You may also try....

    • making very accurate notes on what you've discovered & what you feel need's changing
    • Put the project down for a few months and start on something else
Sound like you're tunneled in right now & could use a fresh perspective. Time away from the project may be all you need.

    Good luck!

That's great advice; I'll try to do that. Thank you! It's a shame cause I was starting to make really good progress on that, or so I thought!

I think I'm just going to work on other stuff for a while, and if something hits me with this one I'll go with it.

    Thanks for your help!

  2. This is something I caught myself doing with something I came up with a few days ago - not the entire song, but there's a couple of phrases where the melody exactly mirrors a song I was shown by a friend the day before. I'm glad I caught that.

The problem for me is, now that I've realised the parallel between the two, I'm finding it difficult to do anything about it. I love my lyrics and don't want to change them for these phrases (the lyrics aren't parallel) but I can't hear them with any other melody other than the one I inadvertently "stole".

    Any ideas how to proceed?

  3. Hi! I'm brand new on here.

    Hey

thought this might be an interesting exercise:

    1. Do you sing, play an instrument or instruments? Both!

What instruments? Piano and guitar, and I sing

When did you start playing? Piano at 8 years old, guitar at 12, and I've always sung.

Did you teach yourself? Guitar yes, piano I had lessons

    2. Are you in a band or bands? No

What is the name of the band?

    What do you play?

What other instruments are in the band?

Do you have a band website?

    3. Do you write songs? Yes

Do you write lyrics, music or both? Both - I find lyrics the easier part though

Do you have a writing partner? No

    4. Do you record your music? Unfortunately not - I don't have the facilities so other than on my phone I don't usually record.

Do you use a home studio? If so what gear do you use?

Do you use a recording studio? Hopefully one day!

Do you have music available on the web? if so where?

    5. What other roles do you perform in the music business?

Management? Label owner? Publishing? Promotion? Other?

    6. Are you a tech head?

    7. What country do you live in? England

    8. What are your ambitions? Improve and enhance my songwriting and get feedback on it from others on here.

    9. Do you draw/paint/write stories/computer art/dance or other creative pursuit? I write sometimes!

What are your pastimes? Music mainly. Also I love football (soccer) and learning languages.

    10. What would you like to get out of Songstuff? Meeting a community of people interested in the same stuff!

I think that covers the main musical things!
