We had a hurricane here... Irma, if you all recall the name, that really tore hell out of our neighborhood. We live in central Florida, above Orlando, near Gainesville. Never thought we'd take the pounding we got.
We lost over a thousand dollars in fresh food and meat, and had to spend thousands more to survive the nearly ten days we went without power, access to gas, fresh water, and many other necessities. Just to keep our generator going, and gas in our cars, cost us almost 700 dollars. We often had to drive as much as 50 or 60 miles, then sit in line for hours, to get a half tank of gas, fill a literjon or two for the generator, or buy a case or two of bottled water. Everything we ate was restaurant food, because the grocery stores were either closed, or empty of almost everything. They lost all their fresh foods and meats, too. It's a small matter in the grand scheme, but it even cost us a few hundred dollars to refurbish our pool, which had become a chemistry experiment gone bad by the time we were able to address the problem.
To help defray costs our budget simply does not have the ability to absorb or defray, I had to sell my Jackson Soloist. For half of what it is worth.
A week ago, using money from a bonus my wife got on the job, I bought a new Schechter Demon 6 Pro. I won't go on about it, but it's a sweet axe. Easily far a more than an adequate replacement for my Soloist.
So, Christmas came a little early for me. There is nothing I can think of that I would have wanted more than this new guitar.
Cheers, all. I hope all my fellow SongStuff members gets exactly their heart's desire.
Merry Christmas, everyone.
Rob - I am sorry to hear about what you and your family had to endure during that time and the cost to you, which was more than just money - having to sell a prized guitar would have been heartbreaking.
I am glad you managed to get a new guitar that you like, but it just goes to show that we should never take everything for granted and should live our lives to the fullest.
Thanks for that.

Hello everyone.
I was just thinking. It’s getting close that time of year again (the older I get, the closer it’s seems to get every year) and I thought I would ask all the members, what you would like for Xmas this year (not from me or SongStuff I might add).
Now, we will keep it specific to music and keep it clean.
But if you were to get that one thing music related from Xmas, what would it be?
For me it would be the Omnisphere 2 synth plugin. This is like the holy grail of synth plugins, but is never reduced in price and I just can’t justify it to myself. So if I wanted anything for Xmas, it would be for my family to chip in together and buy it for me.
Now you........

I like Sparks a lot. Good to see them still at it.... it sounds pretty fresh for the old guys, not quite as crazy as the old stuff but an enjoyable song. Good vid.
'You should listen to Hippopotamus and Missionary Position off their new album then for crazy.

I just heard this new track from Sparks this morning and it is glorious. You really need to like their style to appreciate how brilliant this is:

If you like Interpol - try listening to The Editors, White Lies and early (although their new stuff is good as well) Kasabian.
Then if you want, go listen to some early 80's bands who you will find Interpol and their friends have all got their sound from. There are some good bands out there that you probably haven't heard of - try B Movie asa band who should have had more success, but didn't. Remembrance Day and Nowhere Girl are just two of their songs which are excellent. There are different versions of both, but the later versions are the best once they had started to refine their sound.
and here is another great song from the 80's that popped up as I was searching for B-Movie.
hope you enjoy.

Hi all, just wondering what everyone is listening to at the moment - music wise, before someone says their other half or kids moaning at them!!! - I just thought it would be interesting to see the diverse mix of music and whether you feel inspired to do your own music when you are listening....
I started listening to the Ultravox back catalogue again yesterday. I have done this as I feel this is the best way for me to think about my own music, as this is my favourite group and they influenced my style from a young age. You remember how good the music is, but really, until you listen again with the ears of someone hoping to create and do something with their own music, you really don't realise how good the music actually was. The arrangements, the mix, the production, all of it. If I could emulate only a fraction of that, I would be happy.

Dek - you are on a roll with some of these bands and songs.
Fun fact (well to me) - The Cocteau Twins grew up in Grangemouth where I went to school and were in the same year as one of my cousins. Apparently they were odd even then.

Getting the sounds isn't a problem, well... they spend a lot of time developing their own synth sounds rather than out of the box so it's a factor...but the issue is writing great songs in that style, without copying, they write great pop songs with a really unusual twist. Their songs crossover to acoustic anyway, as proven by Jose Gonzalez cover of their 'Heartbeats' ... the synth sounds are really the least of the problem
'They'll also be using vintage synths and tweaking them.
I might have a go at something, see what I can do.

Sounds easy doesn't it? Lol... it's not...I've tried.
I know, I have a lot of their albums...I think they've split up now.
'Have they? - I knew she was doing some solo stuff, but didn't think they had officially split up.
You need to change DAW - Abelton will help with this kind of music as this is what it is geared more towards. I have the Maschine Mikro and Maschine Jam from Native Instruments and they do packs where you can get all the sounds that would be used in this type of music.
We should collaborate on something like this and get Gry to sing it

Hi all... currently working my way through everything I have started over the past 3 or so years and came across this.... I did this when I first heard that awful Sam Smith song for the new James Bond movie Spectre and decided to try and write my own as a laugh. As you can tell I didn't get very far or finish it, but I listened to it again tonight and thought I would post it (Dek I am not going to do anything with this, so it is not taking me away from trying to change up that other song!! )
Has anyone else written a song as a laugh? If you have, would you like to share it?
