  1. I've recorded an instrumental rock song with my guitar hooked into GarageBand (listen to it here), I have a couple electronically composed tracks on SoundCloud as Mr. Corvus, and I have some riffs I've hammered out that are floating around my head. And thanks for the advice. I sometimes think I'm a little hung up on genre, but I can try to take a more intuitive approach.
  2. I have a lot of different musical influences and a very broad range of music that I like. However, this gives me a bit of a problem: I can't really figure out what kind of music I want to make, as I flit between genres very quickly. My musical interests encompass much of rock and metal, as well as some funk and hip-hop, but it's hard to narrow down what I want to do. Anyone have advice on how to choose what influences to utilize and how to deal with genre in songwriting?
  3. I'll be sure to do that. My lyrics tend to avoid so-called 'universal themes' (because they're not terribly universal to me), and are mostly derived from what I'm interested in outside of music.
  4. Thanks, Richard. I'll be sure to check around the forums further. One thing I'm trying to do is to figure out, from my really broad range of interests, what kinds of music I want to put my effort into creating. I'm also trying to figure out what kind of music suits the lyrics I tend to write.
  5. Hi, I'm RavenMan. I'm an amateur musician with a very wide range of interests (maybe too wide a range), encompassing most rock and metal, as well as some hip hop and funk-influenced stuff. I've been playing guitar for over a year, have tried my hand at writing guitar parts for some rock songs, and have published a couple electronic tracks under the alias of Mr. Corvus on SoundCloud and YouTube. Not sure quite what I'm looking for on this forum, probably just advice and maybe some feedback on my projects.
