Great site! Nice and cozy with real knowledge, much appreciated.
My band "Pasty Way Tango" are a 5 piece electric progressive bluegrass & jazz fusion band from eastern CDN coast but just moved to Vancouver Island. We have been together for 2 1/2 years, chopping wood 4-5 times a week more or less and have approximately 7-9 usable songs with lyrics and around 20 instrumental pieces of varying lengths.
We have stuff recorded on mini-PC studio led equipment but nothing ready for bandcamp or even soundcloud. We just paid our deposit of a couple thousand for a 5 song EP starting in June. Although 2 engineers are booked plus we have a semi-engineer in our band (too much multi-tasking?)
We're hoping 7 days will do it. All this plus a pro tuner, recorder, mixer and producer is included in the total of $7500. This producer has worked with Apollo Suns and helped with 2 albums from Godspeed YBE as well as Kashgar. We did our homework and they are modern, love the analog sound and have helped many well known bands. We were told to watch for the additional fees, they will add up; like rentals, overtime, extra personnel etc.
We will be polished, questions in hand and hopefully all I's dotted and T's crossed but you never know.
Are there any essential issues, questions etc a non-recorded / or signed band should think of as we sign the final papers next week? Anyone know of Monarch Studios? On Commercial Ave I believe in Van.
Thanks for reading!
Mike
