  1. Big giggle to Mike's "turn the damn thing off..." One common technique used in a lot of metal is either going to double time or half time. You're effectively either doubling or halving your bpm. Though depending on the riff, that exact number may not work perfect. So you tweak it a little one way or another. Besides those two, you're not looking at a lot of rules. It becomes a feel thing. Not to say you couldn't experiment with taking the tempo down 1/3 or something. But the half and double are the most used.
  2. Hi Everyone.. My name is Phil Johnson and I'm new around these parts. I've been writing songs for about 18 years and I perform both solo and with my band Roadside Attraction. In the last 5 years I fell into the comedy game doing both comedy music and stand-up. Hate to say it, but it pays better than straight music. But I do get to travel the country making people laugh. My background is a degree in jazz, years of classical training, lifetime student of rock and pop music. I'm looking forward to helping out where I can and picking up tips where I see them.
