  1. Exactly, although we do build in real world scenarios and activities. the aim is for lyricists to work with realism, to expand skills and embrace activities that they otherwise avoid, and to learn to do them better so that when they do do them for real they are muc more effective at it. So we look to expand both songwriting skills and professional skills that songwriters use. In essence I act a bit like somewhere between the "writer development" department in a music publishing company and a personal manager.

Thanks John..........Now does this particular exercise have to be serious or can the lyric(s) be humorous?

  2. Ok, I just joined this group, so I take it, that it involves hypothetical situations and people as an exercise to further our writing ability. This particular challenge definitely looks very challenging.

Wow, that's a lot of information.
What's a 'comming of age' song? Never heard of it before.

Hey V...Coming of age is a young person's transition from childhood to adulthood.

  3. I have been using ClipX for 2 or 3 years (I forget) but if you are a lyricist or writer in general and you are constantly cutting or copying in to your work. This is a great tool. If you have ever deleted a line and wished you had it back, this really helps. Instead of deleting, I just cut it out and keep it on the clipboard just in case. You just click on the icon in the tray and a list pops up of all the words (or verses or paragraphs) you have copied, then you just click the one you want (even if it was 3 days ago) and paste it in your document. I have it set for keeping the last 300 things I copied. It's free and has saved my butt many times. This link is not the regular download site, but just has the best explanation of it I believe. If you get it, I would get it from Cnet.

  4. There are contributing artist only voting projects hereabouts.

Of course, you could bribe another member to vote your way. I offer such a service for very reasonable rates.

Or you could sign up to my sockpuppet creation program and get multiple votes from very inept artists.

lol...always love your wit my friend..lol......But on the serious side, I am plugging SongStuff (as well as one other) on my Facebook, Facebook Lyrics page and through emails associated with this other startup site. I don't feel there is competition between forums or sites, but do feel they should try to support each other, because it is the benefit of the individual (or band) we are looking for in the end. I feel they have a noble idea there, that could actually benefit those trying to hone their craft......sockpuppet creation program....I gotta admit, I laughed out loud for reals on that phrase.......P.S. SongStuff is my Home, my number one go to, just to make that clear. First forum I joined and the last I'll leave....and only if they're putting me in the ground.

  5. Sorry to hear that. I get the medicated thing, I have my own issues and it can be damn frustrating to say the least. Painkillers in particular can really crew concentration and memory, and then there's the problem itself, all of which screws with motivation!

Just to be clear, the lyrics challenge group and the lyrics contest are not the same thing. That said, they do take time and effort.

I hope your health improves soon. Best wishes.

As soon as I'm back to par, I'll be participating much much more. Thanks very much for the well wishes.

  6. I doubt they will be interested. The entire set up of the site is about spreading the word to as many people as possible. From the experience of myspace, reverbnation etc. if those who want to cheat can find a way to cheat, they will, no matter the good intention and ethics of decent people.

Out of interest, why not take part in our lyrics challenge group? It incorporates collaboration projects and is geared to broadening experience and giving deeper understanding. It also includes voting where appropriate.

I guess it also depends on what you would be looking for from lyrics challenges. I feel confident that because of the variation in our challenges, you would probably find it there :)

I missed the deadline this month for lyric contest because of my tumor situation....I was a day late seeing I was a day late :(

I have a lot going on and can't concentrate all that well. So I jumped in that contest because it didn't involve a lot of time. I am full of doc visits all the time and medicated up right now.

  7. This site could use some fair and balanced votes for best lyric. I am participating but I'm not asking for your vote, just a fair shot against the other four entrants. The way it is setup now, everybody basically can get their family to vote for them and win because of family size. I will be offering them an alternative to this voting method soon, as soon as I figure out how to articulate it to them.

  8. I have been following this site (The Lyrical Challenge) for a while now. As of right now, they don't have a lot of musicians or lyricists, and what's been produced hasn't been top notch stuff (Yet),but really good stuff all the same .But I think this is a great way to practice and work on developing a creative approach to writing for lyrics as well as challenging. If you visit, I would like to know your thought's on this concept.
