  1. Figured I'd share this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDSlj4A6S5A Out There Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2016, All Rights Reserved From your mind to mine a microscopic line, it’s really kinda trippy! You’re out there, even nuttier than me. Beaming from your soul a rusty, ragged rainbow, and with your jerky movements, I know right now that my Mom won’t approve. But I’m content to stay here a little while, cause you make me smile, and watch you pace the floor, the puzzle pieces start to sort. Quarter after twelve and what is that I smell? White Zinfandel on your breath, somewhat seasoned by your hand-rolled cigarette. I guess I wouldn’t mind to hang right here in the meantime, and watch you wander back and forth, wearing ruts in that poor story. From your mind to mine a microscopic line, it’s really kinda trippy. You’re out there, You’re out there like me.
  2. She’s a Keeper Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2016, All Rights Reserved I bet she isn’t 5-foot-2, don’t let that fool you, cause they packed a lotta person into one fun-sized woman. Even in a crowded room, her heartfelt laughter booms out from a thousand voices… I can hear her loud and clear high above the background noise. And I ain’t seen a storm like this in my mind for a long, long time. Lightning bolts meet waves of bliss, cause this gal brings a special kinda warm and fuzzy feeling. Each day the knowing hits deeper, she’s a keeper. She’s no ordinary flower, got a dash of super power, true and timeless style, bringing spring in with her smile. It’s only been a couple of months, but I can’t fight back the hunch, one day years will find us, I want to feel her hand in mine every day for a lifetime. And I ain’t seen a storm like this in my mind for a long, long time. Lightning bolts meet waves of bliss, cause this gal brings a special kinda warm and fuzzy feeling. Each day the knowing hits deeper, she’s a keeper. And I ain’t seen a storm like this in my mind for a long, long time. 3. The Notebook Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2016, All Rights Reserved How I owe my soul to the timely intervention of the notebook. The notebook wherein pages turned, the muses burned the ink that I provided. It’s been a tiring trip, I like to think it was a good one. And when that full moon dips, we’ll assess the damage we’ve done. How I am in debt to the powers that let me keep the notebook. The notebook where the poltergeist meets its demise with movements of my hand. I can feel you now, somehow you’re present in my heartbeat. When that sulky sun goes down, we’ll wander through the wormholes till we meet. How I owe my soul to the timely intervention of the notebook. The notebook wherein pages turned, the muses burned the ink that I provided.
  4. I wrote this for the upcoming songfight contest and thought I'd share it with y'all. Have a good one! Change is Coming Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2016, All Rights Reserved There’s a campfire burning bright, glowing strong and steady through the night in my mind. My eyes are bright and my head is clear, Calliope knows she can find me here around this time. From out of the dark a whimsical melody plays, that wandering spirit has finally decided to stay. Change is coming and I know that you see it too. I’d say let’s fight it, but there isn’t much we can do. Change is coming, I’d say it’s well under way, soon we’ll remember our lives more like yesterday. There’s a sweet taste in the ocean breeze, the sounds of chimes and rattles of leaves in perfect time. With a bird’s eye view way upon the wing, from the highest branch I’ll perch and sing about the beauty I find. Darkness driven away by the new coming day, that wandering spirit finally found the way. Change is coming, and I know that you see it too. I could sell notebooks with songs dedicated to you. Change is coming, I’d say it’s well under way, soon we’ll remember our lives more like yesterday. There’s a campfire burning bright, glowing strong and steady through the night in my mind. My eyes are bright and my head is clear Calliope knows she can find me here around this time.
  5. Hi all, just finished a new one and thought I'd share it. Hope you're all doing well. Possess Me T Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2016, All Rights Reserved If you should hear this, you might guess that it’s addressed to you. You’ve become an inspiration I can’t help but give expression to. Don’t get me wrong, you’re more than worthy of a song. To praise your finer features, the list goes on, while you Possess me T. You come in like the wind, you take me back again. You possess me T. If you should hear this you will know exactly what it means. I’ve revealed a secret, a little clue that only you have seen. I didn’t do too awful bad, I gave it all I had on that warm winter day. Like then the sun keeps shining, every day reminding me of all the ways that you Possess me T. You come in like the wind, you take me back again. You possess me T. If you should hear this, you might guess that it’s addressed to you. You’ve become an inspiration I can’t help but give expression to.
  6. Ah, it's great to live in Oregon these days. "Trainwreck" in this usage is a strain of cannabis I'd highly recommend to anyone. I hope everyone's doing well. I haven't stopped by here forever and a day... I've got some catching up to do. Trainwreck Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2016, All Rights Reserved This train goes a long ways before it wrecks. This train takes you a long ways, and then it wrecks! It doesn't slow for corners so you'll have to hold on tight, those engines don't know how to stop, they thunder through the night. Trainwreck, what a pretty tragedy. Trainwreck, invariably decadent and beautiful. This train moves across the room before it wrecks. This train takes you to the moon and then it wrecks! It doesn't come with seatbelts, so you'll have to hold on tight. Those rocket-thrusters glowing red, booming through the night. Trainwreck, something ran over me. Trainwreck, dangling from the cliffs of clinical insanity. Could I have your ticket sir? I see, thank you. Find a window seat, and just enjoy the view. Tonight we'll probably head out past the southern stars, flip a bitch and head back to Mars, crash in for an intergalactic barbeque. This train goes a long ways before it wrecks. This train takes you a long ways, and then the mother-effer wrecks.
  7. This is one I wrote for songfight, and never recorded. I decided to record it today. http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_18797123 LIFE SHOULD BE FUN Words and Music by Gregg Boethin Copyright 2012, All Rights Reserved If I had some kind of past-life, I don't remember it, not a single bit. Logic would seem to suggest there won't be another one, when this one's done. Some people speak of a place in the sky, play your cards right and one day you'll arive. I'll see you in Hell if I'm wrong, but oh well, I have my doubts. Life should be fun, Life should be fun. That's a God-given right you shouldn't give up to anyone. Life should be fun, Grab some scissors and run, No harm, no foul, nobody saw you, No damage done. With so many laws, and all of those rules, sometimes you can't help but breaking a few. Try to relax and blow off some steam, and you're bound to get busted by the Fun-Police. For drinking some beer, or smoking some weed, or watching a grown-up show on TV. To say it's a sin when you ain't hurting anyone, I have my doubts. Life should be fun, Even for nuns. That's a God-given right you shouldn't give up to anyone. Life should be fun, Go get naked and run, No harm, no foul, nobody saw you, No damage done. No fingerprints, no DNA. No tire-tracks, no security camera, no damage done.
  8. Sounds like the first couple of Hellraiser movies. To be honest with you, I'm not real scared by your demonic voice. If he commanded me to do something I'd probably be like, "Oh yeah, why should I do that for you?". My guess would be that he'd threaten to cap me with his 9 if I didn't, to which I'd laugh and say, "you don't have a 9". Then he'd run off and rap the commands to make him a new body to someone else, and they'd probably laugh at him too. I guess what I'm saying is that you really need to work on the scariness of your scary guy.
  9. Hey all. I've decided to get more serious about mixing, and am working on a portfolio right now. I'd like to mix some songs for other people, and I'm willing to do this at no cost, to gain experience and add some portfolio items. What I'm looking for are songs with tracks that have been recorded with decent equipment... condenser mics for the vocals, sm57 or equivalent for guitars, etc. Obviously I'm not expecting your tracks to sound like they came out of a professional studio, but I'm hoping they don't sound like they came out of your bathroom, either. As far as genres go I'm open to anything that doesn't require serious electronic effects, like hip-hop. If you have a song you'd like to have me mix please PM me. To reiterate, it won't cost you anything. I do reserve the right to decline a mixing job if I feel it's not the right fit, or what I'm looking for. Below are examples of some of my recent mix jobs. My Secret Heaven http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_17010888 Aurora Borealis http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_16759549 The Fast Minutes Fly http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_16973267 Teenage Politician *Improperly mic-ed guitar and drums, but I did my best with it. http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_17283368 Again, please PM me if you're interested. Thanks, Gregg
  10. Thanks for the thoughts, John. I've been making my living online by running advertising on free sites for the last 5 years, and I'm very familiar with concept of converting server resources into income. I'd be considered an expert programmer and would have no need for anyone else's software. I have a top-of-the-line dedicated server, and I could have another one, if I needed one. Bandwidth is actually less of a concern to me than CPU usage, which I don't foresee being a problem with a site like this one. Technically, I have everything here covered. I didn't specify any of these things in my OP, and I know you mention these things with the complete intention of helping me out, and I do appreciate it. But just so you know that the technical aspect is covered... I'm not trying to make another Reverbnation site that would have millions of members trying to promote themselves. I would actually not allow the posting of pictures, which might influence the vote on a song. I wouldn't allow the linking to buy links, blogs, websites, etc. I wouldn't allow my site to be yet another tool a band or musician could use to promote themselves. I'd actually be hoping to attract a very small subset of the people who use sites like Reverbnation, which is a site far more for artists than songwriters. I'm hoping to attract songwriters, who have songs they want to have recorded by other artists. I wouldn't have a forum or anything like that at my site, and I'm not exactly sure what your concern would be with me taking people away from your site. As much as I like your site, and the way you're doing things, I'd be sending people to your site if there was any chance that I could. If I decide to do this I'll probably be talking to you see if there's any way we can help each other, if that's something that would interest you. As for your mention of legal concerns, that one does worry me a little bit. Again, I'd foresee the high majority of users to be songwriters with professional demos, to which they'd have complete rights. I know I'd probably have to have a lawyer draw up a TOS, and I do know that you can't completely write away all liability with a TOS. To answer your questions as to how I'd attract fans, my answer is: I'd be hoping the simple idea of being involved in the judging process would attract fans. I don't know for sure on that one, though. That's one thing I really don't understand, but you figure, how many thousands of people call in on shows like "Dancing With The Stars"? Again, that's one I don't really know on, and that has always been one of my biggest concerns. Let's say that I could theoretically find a way to prevent people from cheating in the ranking. I know that's a big if. But, if I could, after providing you with more information as to what I'd be doing, and hopefully making it clear that I'm not trying to make yet another gigantic music site like Reverbnation, what concerns would you, or anyone else reading have? Thanks very much for your thoughts, John! Gregg
  11. Hey all. I purchased the domain name songwritingstars.com a few months ago. I've worked on this idea on and off. I'm thinking about getting back to it, and maybe finishing it this time. It'd be nice to have some encouragement, if you believe it's a good idea. Conversely, if you feel it's not I'd appreciate your telling me so, so in case you're right, I don't waste my time on it... or I might make some changes. So please let me know what you think of this idea. I'm also open to any suggestions or ideas for improvements. The idea is that it's a place for songwriters to upload their songs, like at soundcloud, reverbnation, or any other music site. The difference is that songs will be ranked by popularity, and so will songwriters. So as a songwriter, you could aspire to be the #1 songwriter in your genre, or maybe even overall. What's really different about my idea and all the other music sites I'm aware of this I'll be going to a lot of trouble to prevent gaming of the system. Like where at reverbnation, you can spend all day fanning other artists and getting them to fan you back, and thus raise your rank. Here, songs will be judged, and ranked according to how they're judged (maybe on a scale from 1 to 5). The songs will be judged by songwriters at the website, and anyone who wants to sign up. There will be measures in place to make sure people aren't creating tons of different accounts and judging their own songs. I can foresee other ways people will try to cheat, but I figure I'll stay on top of those, and eventually, I will shut the cheaters down. Another problem I'd like to address with my idea for a website is that of your song never getting listened to. In most of the other websites your song gets buried by new songs, or for other reasons may never get any plays if you don't promote it. With my site there'd be a queue that would guarantee your song would get x number of plays and judgements. It may not happen immediately, but it will happen. And I'll have incentives for getting your song plays and judgements more quickly by things you can do. I figure, if it's popular, and it works the way I'd like it to, and a lot of songwriters add their songs here, what I'll end up with is a pretty decent catalog of songs, ranked by popularity. And I believe that such a catalog would attract people who are looking for original songs. Not to say that every publisher would be coming here, but at the very least, unsigned artists would find this very attractive. Some people do actually look for songs at Reverbnation, but with no real way to sort by quality or popularity, you end up having to sort through a lot of junk, which is why I think it's not used for this reason more often. Anyway, like I said, if you think you would benefit from such a site please let me know. I really need some encouragement to keep going on this. If you see problems I'm overlooking I'd also really appreciate your input. One of my concerns is that I won't be able to get enough of the public involved. I really don't know how well this would work if the songwriters were doing the majority of the judging. On the other hand, people love to judge and vote. BTW, it would be completely free. I'd probably make my money on it through advertising. Again, please take just a second to let me know what you think. Thanks! Gregg
