  1. Today I celebrate 16 days of being cigarette free.
  2. It's done, I'm running 10. I did give into a few privacy / security things including the advertising. I recall seeing something that stated "install anyway" shortly after I checked my email and there was the notification... One thing I don't think John Q Public understands about MS cloud distribution is that it uses your computer for storage and distribution of it's software. I also don't think MS was aware of how fast it could roll out win 10 could be distributed via this peer to peer method. Which is why they opted for reserving your version then waiting... http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/bitwise/2015/08/windows_10_privacy_problems_here_s_how_bad_they_are_and_how_to_plug_them.2.html I downloaded and installed win 10 in the late to early hours (2.am to 11 am) locally on a tuesday. Most people keep their computers running 14/7 though may not access them during that time. Re drivers. Yeah I learned the truth about driver fixer apps and trying to keep up with drivers years back. Driver inspector fixer tools are a scam. Codecs / decodec are the things that can make your life miserable (especially video) Vid and audio codecs get thrown out the window first on new installs cause microsoft can't maintain them all My Window 10 machine doesn't have any music production software on it. It does have a few programs that I'll have to clear the registry and re register. No big deal, those programs are from my software company. It takes less then 5 minutes to clear all the software titles and get fresh keys for ten programs.
  3. well I've tried to download win10 three times over the last day. Fail, fail, fail. I'm starting to think maybe it's not a good idea even after I go through all the security hoops.
  4. Yep, I made the switch to mixcraft awhile back after comparing various other daws.
  5. Just wanted to add. Nice collection of standards. Check out my Setlist here - http://forums.songstuff.com/topic/42041-calculating-a-set-list/ Completely forgot about April in Paris. I did that years ago and need to add it to my own. What a great song.
  6. Harry Fox has a pay service for licensing called songfile. http://www.harryfox.com/
  7. Nice Article Rudi.
  8. Best of luck in your pursuits, Rudi.
  9. Hi John, Not offended and not a slur, Without songwriters there would be no songs to sing (or play)
  10. @ Rudi The more I think of jazz standards that I've done before the longer the list grows. In group settings I've played literally hundreds possibly even 1000's of jazz standards. As a soloist fingerstyle guitarist I've played all of the above but more as a learning experience such as learning to write my own arrangements for guitar/ztar. I've already added 10 more songs to the list after posting. The thing now is to remember them all and play them in sets and or clean up my weak areas. @ John. Singer-Songwriter? I'm neither. Occasionally I've dabble in writing instrumentals. Nonetheless your post has great merit. When I was in a Blues-Rock band we'd always start off with an uptempo song to catch the crowds attention then wind it down a bit and finish the set with a crowd pleaser always leaving them wanting more. Prior to that when I was doing pop/folk rock in a duet we'd set up covers as "three-fers" Three songs by the same artist before moving on to another artist. At times I could have been a "tribute artist" as I'd have huge libraries of songs under my belt. I have not treated my voice kindly over the years nor my lungs. Heck three songs singing and playing and I'm toast. Over the last hmmm 15 years I've gone down so many roads musically it isn't even funny. Always searching for the next thing. As soon as I was either adequate or adequately frustrated that no matter how hard I tried it wasn't going to happen I'd move on again. A few weeks ago I started playing standard pop/rock songs. Many I'd played before and some were new. It was all too easy and...I kept on saying to myself I'm never going to get myself in another cover band. Jazz fingerstyle has always been just the right middle ground. It's always challenging enough that I feel satisfied when I can pull it off and yet not so challenging that I'm not banging my head against the wall (classical, heavy metal)
  11. In recent years I've gotten away from set lists. Generally I'll work out a few songs at a time and by the time I'm either sufficiently pleased with my performance or have simply given up the ghost in frustration. I simply move onto another new song to learn. I want a setlist and am trying to figure out how to calculate how big it should be. Here's what I've got so far: 1. Summer Time 2. Polka Dots and Moon Beams 3. How High The Moon 4. Body and Soul 5. They Can't Take That Away From Me 6. Sugar 7. Autumn Leaves 8. Long Ago and Far Away 9. It's Only a Paper Moon 10. Sweet Loraine 11. Witchcraft 12. Darn That Dream 13. There Will Never Be Another You 14. One Note Samba 15. Summer Samba 16. St Thomas 17. Stormy Weather 18. Shadow of Your Smile 19. Lullaby of Birdland 20. Wave 21. Don't Get Around Much Anymore 22. Dream a Little Dream Of Me 23. Waltz for Debbie Of note regardomg these songs... Due to fingerstyle performance They are only two to two and a half minutes long at most. At minimum that's only 46 minutes back to back. I want a nice full 2 hours
  12. Quicksilver Messenger Service - What About Me
  13. That was last year. The bar closed. Right now I'm scraping by. On the positive side I can no longer afford cigarettes so I'm going through serious withdrawal.
  14. At one time Ted Nugent owned a radio station in Detroit. Once you got past the morning show (him and politics) the station was pretty good and attracted a lot of suburban listeners. Arbitron was the ratings company and they focused listenership within the City of Detroit. At the time the City had less then a million people but... The suburbs had 1.5 Arbitron refused to poll outside of the city of Detroit. When the numbers came back no one wanted to advertise on Nugents radio station and he had to shut down. Another thing about Arbitron (which is now owned by Nielson) In the Detroit area we border...Southwest Ontario Canada. As a result there is cross pollination of listening habits. The ratings companies treat these as separate markets when they are the same. A few Canadian stations do very well this side of the Detroit River but it's never recorded. Regarding Jazz. We used to have a great jazz radio station. Everyone chipped in (public radio) to keep the Jazz alive. I donated money and time to help with the pledge drive to keep it alive. The station received a surplus of money to keep the jazz alive and then.... The new station manager decided to stop the jazz shows. Instead opting to buy bbc news re broadcasts. I was furious the local public radio fans were furious. The decision stood and when the next pledge drive came around saying this time we'll bring back jazz. We all contributed under the promise and then nothing. Fooled twice. Now they have one two hour jazz show on the weekend. I could care less. I listen to shoutcast exclusively these days. http://shoutcast.com
  15. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/did-nielsen-kill-the-radio-star/ To be honest It's an extremely rare occasion when I listen to the radio. But I can see how a bad rating system can lead to the downfall of radio stations (I've seen it here in the past) which are receiving listeners but the ratings company does not accurately reflect actual listenership. Many similarities with Spotify me thinks
  16. I had this running in the background while doing other things. Great production! I wouldn't say "catchy" but very listenable.
  17. I thought of all those. I also thought of my old standbys Wes Montgomery. Barney Kessel Kenny Burrell Keven Eubanks Herb Ellis Larry Carlton Lee Ritenour Tal Farlow Lenny Breau Pat Martino Grant Green Bucky Pizzarelli John Pizzarelli Frank Vignola Ed Bickert George Benson
  18. Here's an interesting development for me.. http://www.rareelectricguitar.com/ They have tones of illegal brand name signature fakes If you don't like the models they have to offer you can send them the specs and they will build a guitar for you. I've known a few seedy retailers that would love this place. On the other hand I'd love to custom design my own guitar and have someone else build it for me like... Matt Raines. Chris Forsage designs many of his guitars and then he ships the designs off to china to be built.
  19. Every time I come back to this thread with more names...Some one else has beat me to it. And then I look at the other listing and say to myself.... Me too. It's funny as much as I love jazz guitar. When ever I think of jazz greats I jump to contemporaries rather then luminaries from the past. Like this guy... and this guy This guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1_HomC3ZUs This Guy
  20. Funny you mention that. I've recently (not that I could ever afford it) fascinated with The Gibson Les Paul Custom Peter Frampton. Or to name it correctly the new Gibson 1954 Custom Modified by Steve Marriott Played by Peter Frampton Signature Re-envisioned by Gibson and finished at the Gibson Custom shop.
  21. Somehow I don't see Mahesh as ruler. He is strikes me more as an everyman. A common compassion for all more of a brother/friend then a commander. Great stuff Mahesh
