  1. First of all, it's been a looooooooooooooooong time since I stopped by. So, hi to everyone who remembers me, and hi to those who don't.

That being said...One of my favorites comes from an Indie back around 2000. His name was Zallen, and the line was:

"Oh you're never gonna know just how it feels,

To be a kid on a bike without training wheels,

Stuck in the rain for the very first time....

    Love that!

  2. As I get older my voice had improved quite a bit. The problem here is it has improved along with becoming more lead emphisized. It also has increase in vibrato which is OK for lead but not for multiple harmonies. (No John, I am not recording again)

I can not atribute all of this to age because for the first time in my adult life, I like how I sing.

When I was young, smoking hadn't affected my voice yet. On the other hand, I didn't have a mature singing voice. Now that I am 6+ months free from those cancer sticks, and I am in my late 40's, my range and depth of my singing voice is the best it ever was. Hell, if I could get someone locally to record an entire song and in need of vocals, I'd sign up. However, no one here records music, let alone my kind of music.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  3. Hey

over the years I've owned a few synths. I just wondered what your favourite synth is? Why is it your fav?

    :)

    Cheers

    John

    Hmmm, let's see.

Now this is going way, way back. I had a Moog but I cannot remember which model. I wasn't even poly. Yup, one note at a time. I did however have a great slide function and would do the beginning of "Riding The Storm Out" to a tee! I miss the Old Girl.

I had some early Korgs and let me tell you this. They never went back together like they came apart. I lost two of them that way.

I guess I am a fan of the XP Roland generation. Even though their (All) owners manuals suck I still like their sounds.

For touch (I being a piano player) I always loved my Alesis.

  4. Hang on. I've just checked, my mic is a SM58 not a SM57. I'm going to check out the specs of both...

The 58 is actually a slightly better mic. The only problem is it will tend to pick up more sound around it. The 57 is more directional.

As far as the hug goes,.....just respect me in the morning!!!

  5. I was just wondering how much pressure do you put on the strings when using the fret to play notes, when playing an open string sounds good but when I use the fret it sounds flat and dull, am I doing something wrong? At the moment I am learning from books and websites until a friend can give me some lessons.

You may be pressing on top of the raised area. Press just behind (to the left of) the raise part until the sound clears up. If the guitar is somewhat set up, you should not have to press very hard.

  6. Hello Rudi,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Roland. As some know, I use the Roland 1680. It came with 2 owners manuals, (quick start & Novel) and also an addenum which did little to correct the mistakes in the original volumes. Anyway, these manuals are quite good if you can understand Greek. I chose to learn by trial and error. Mostly error. :D

Moving on, I downloaded the owners manual for your unit. It is my understanding that you do not need a condensor mic. You can use your standard stage mics if you wish.

You can connect a plug-in powered condenser

mic to the LINE IN/MIC jack. This is just an option for using such a mic. Not a requirement

Perform the procedure given below to use the

    plug-in powered microphone.

    1.

    Connect the plug-in powered microphone

    to the LINE IN/MIC jack.

    2.

Turn the power on as described in

“Turning the power on” (p. 24).

    3.

Press [iNPUT] and then press [TR4] (EXT).

    4.

    Press [uTILITY].

    5.

Use CURSOR [ ][ ] to access the

    PlugInPower screen.

    fig.06-020

    6.

Use VALUE [+] to turn value ON.

If you want to turn value OFF, press [-].

    7.

Press [uTILITY] (or [EXIT]) to return to the

    Play screen.

If you select TR1–TR4, the data will be

imported in monaural, and if you select

TR12 or TR34, the data will be imported

    in stereo.

For example, if you select TR12, the left

channel of the audio file is imported

into TR1, and the right channel of the

audio file is imported into TR2.

If you want to listen to these tracks in

stereo after it has been imported, set the

pan for TR1 to “L50,” and set the pan

    for TR2 to “R50.” (p. 44)

    Using plug-in powered

    microphone

    • A voltage of approximately 2.5 V can be

supplied from the LINE IN/MIC jack.

Unlike phantom power, this cannot supply

    48 V.

If PlugInPower is turned ON, you must

connect only a condenser mic that is

    compatible with plug-in power. Connecting

any other device (dynamic microphone etc.)

    may damage that device.

Leave this power source "off" if you use a "non-powered" mic.

    The PlugInPower parameter is stored

    individually for each song.

Rudi, I could be totally wrong here, but I don't think so. This is similar to my 1680.

  7. Yes I have a SM57 and an older Unisphere.

The manual for the recorder I use specifies that a powered condenser mic be used (2.5v).

2.5 is an odd requirement, although I don't have the foggiest idea what is run in Europe. Anyway, I used to have one of these babies and it worked great. (Lost it somewhere)

    Hey Mic!!!!

  8. I have just bought a guitar, my first one so haven't got a clue about them, and it came with a pitch pipe, could someone please tell me what this is and how it is used? And a really daft question now, where is the best place to tie the shoulder strap to? see I'm a real novice :-[ cant even do that :D

We have plenty of guitar people here so I imagine one of them will jump in soon. I myself play the piano and I'm sure you don't want to strap one of those onto your shoulder, so I'll just leave now. BYE

  9. You know John, that's a good question. I'm not educated on pick-ups. It has a 4band EQ and the pick-up is internal. I don't know much more than that. It's a suprize for my 12yr old boy who loves music. I know he looks at them often, but he never says anything. I just bought it knowing that he won't put it down....therefore, for my sanity, I wanted something that was also good "unpluged".

Not sure what type of strings are coming with it. I'm hoping for a warm sound myself. (I'm sure I'll pick away at it too!!) :D
