  1. ...or nervous!

I have just recently been invited to start working with this Singer/Musician/Songwriter out of Nashville. We are also working with this fella Jesse who has just finished working (Engineer/Mix Editor) for a new song for Faith Hill.

I will basically do some background piano work and also some pre-mastering on the end tracks. This will be something new for me, but Jim (The songwriter) seems to like my preliminary work. This won't be album work at this point, but more of a package presented to producers.

Who knows, you might just hear our work on a movie some day.

    That would be cool!

  2. While it is possible to get fairly good over time, not all people are able to do so. Tone deafness is quite common and some people can't sing on key because they can't hear "comprehend" the notes they are shooting for.

Therefore, some people will never be able to sing.

    That's life!

  3. Just one tip that many people new to recording almost always overlook. Quality shielded cords. You don't have to spend a bunch either. Shop around. For gods sake, don't use speaker cords!!!

Another thought; Many people set up their studios in basements................yes, basements with cement floors. Make sure you place some kind of covering on the floor, preferably rubber containing as this will help shield line noise, not to mention a possible shocking experience.

You want to help eliminate room noise?......Do it cheaply buy purchasing some of those foam bed covers. They are large, around 4 feet by 7 feet and can be bought for around 8-10 bucks a piece.

    Carry on.

  4. I, for some odd reason have been getting fan e-mails lately. This one fellow said Zappa once said:

I read an interview of Frank Zappa from a few years back where he said that people should make music to just share with each other. He said this is one of the greatest things about home recording. He said that people should avoid the concept of being a "star" and commented that being a star doesn't have much to do with talent.

If this is a correct quote, it's a very good statement for the younger talent out there. I think most of us "Old Guys" know this. Stick with your talent! If the star part happens then great! But don't let it stop you if it doesn't!

  5. Hmmmm, let's see.

Basically my sister taught me some piano stuff when I was about 4. I then took piano lessons from ages 7-12. These didn't really give me any technical knowlage as my teacher basically let me learn what I wanted to learn. That's not all bad as it kept me interested. She then told me she couldn't teach me any higher level so I switched teachers. That lasted just one year because the new teacher was way to much into classical. NOT my bag.

Most all I do now is my own style. You know, things I have taught myself.

  6. Am I the only one that tunes to the keyboard by ear then...? :-/

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I would say so. Most everyone I know uses their fingers.

You guys are all lucky. I have to tune my piano to a guitar! :-[
