I Need To Cut The Crap

Any ideas on how to cut out all the rubbish running in the background on win xp? There seems to be a lot of it going on! It must be slowing things down?

I'm becoming a big fan of Reaper and in their ENORMOUS manual there is a section on maximising XP performance

All of it apart from the page swapping + I have an internet connection on the machine and it's networked to another one.

Biggest improvement was using an ASIO driver which seems much better.

Here's a picture of something I'm doing at the moment and it runs quite happily while I'm online etc

Obviously the more effects I use the more CPU is used but I probably wouldn't do a lot more than this normally

I have set up another profile on my computer for when I want to record music. In this profile, I have disconnected the ethernet connection. I am gonna try going through the rest of those suggestions. If anybody wants to know how to set up a new profile? Just ask!

Y'know, one of the worst offenders I've run into for memory-hogging and slowdowningness is the [expletive deleted] Norton antivirus program. I bet it comes "bundled" with virtually everybody's off-the-shelf computer. (I don't have that problem at home--again--because I had my coimputer built for me, and I specifically told the guy I didn't want any part of Norton.)

At work, where I did have off-the-shelf computers, I had to pay a techie person to spend several hours eliminating the Norton--it was pervasive. It freed up about 10% of the computer's memory. And while I'm not certain it quadrupled the operating speed, it sure felt like it.

I'd just like to add another kick in the teeth to Norton - you pay for that, and yet AVG do a completely FREE virus scanner that is better... And doesn;t eat your computer for breakfast... Free stuff is usually best
