Sound Cards

Hey

Why did you choose the sound card(s) you chose?

I have 2 Creamware cards in my system, expensive but worthwhile. Not only is the quality exceptional, but unlike most sound cards the DSP chips are reconfigurable for hardware support of many different modules and taking all the weight off the processing by your main CPU. Very flexible system all in. Modules include mixers, synths, effects etc

Cheers

John

I chose the Edirol FA-66 for several reasons:

I was on a forum where a lot of people had their gear listed and usually a link to their stuff, and I used my ears.

I also chose it because I can just plug it into any Mac I would add maybe - it works even without loading a driver there, its recognised in firmware. Real versatile rugged little thing for the road, too. I just have to keep an eye open for my new mobo having either a pci slot or firewire onboard - or you're pretty stuck. I wonder if more people who have firewire stuff realise this.

I use audiophile 192 (m-audio delta series) x2, its never let me down, excellent all round performer esp. for making electronic sounds. The inputs and outputs are perfect for mixing down to my analogue mixer. I would not swap them for the world. And there cheap!

I don't really have anything to say. I will eventually replace mine, but for now they both serve my needs. But they're old. I have a Terratec EWS88 MT that I love, and it supports up to 192 khz samplerates. My other card is an E-Mu 1212M. But Terratec has abandoned that line in favor of their phase 88 line and the Emu is really just a bare bones card. Both are PCI -- not ideal, but I've created scenes for my various roles so I've got the buffer size and everything set accordingly.

I have no idea what I'll get in the future. Everything is much bigger than I need. Since I do everything myself, I just need two inputs and two outputs. Right now, I'm using a Presonus stereo preamp and that's working fine, too.

My upgrades, in this order will be:

New monitors (probably JBL)

bass traps and sound damping

better mics

better preamp

new A/D converter (will probably go with firewire) and use a digital connection to the monitors.

What do you think of the emu 1212M Steve?

I use a 1616M on my laptop.
