XP audio tips?

Recommended Posts

Hey

Does anyone have recommendations for using XP on your audio PC?

For example:

Turn off screensaver.

Use simple themes.

What about any optimisation to help squeeze the most from your system?

Cheers

John

About the system:

With audio PC it is better to keep it simple, and avoid any useless crap running background, because any background process uses CPU- time and may ad some click's and pop's if you are recording something.

About the screen saver:

In these days, you don't even really need screen savers, because those multicolour wallpapers doesn't burn in the screen anyway (for that you need a black & white monitor with some serious contrast...); of course you can use one, but make sure that it is compatible with your audio programs...just test it, and if it doesn't hang, or make any background noise, just use it.

About system optimising:

System optimising is a operation which is system depending, so there isn't much advise which suits for all...You should know your BIOS and learn how to optimise it, you should know your components and how to take all out of them; like memory for example: How many of us have best possible memory timing in use? I bet there is some adjusting to do for most of our machines...anyway, all this information is in the internet, and it is easy to find, so you can find out and learn which is best just for your motherboard and components...

This is my humble opinion, so feel free to see things differently...
