Ascap And Royalties Question

Recommended Posts

Earlier this year I licensed a few of my tracks to a record label. They are about to release it and a few remixes of one of the tracks over the web. The manager of the label asked me if I was a member of ascap and I said yes, but I guess my question is do I also have to have the song regestered with ascap to recieve royalties or is it good enough for me to just be a member? I'm a little confused this is the first time I'm going through this with my music and don't want to sound like a dumby to the record label!!

Hey

You have to register your works individually before they will collect on your behalf. To quote their site:

"One of the first steps to getting paid is making sure your works are registered at ASCAP. After all, we can't pay you for the performance of a work if we don't know you are the writer or publisher."

:)

Cheers

John
