I'm curious to how many here actually map before they record.

A long time back I was getting a lot of side work with the vegas acid community (before they were bought out by sony) doing guitar and bass overdubs. Some were horrendus to work with no key, no chord progressions written out and no notation. At least I could make some references to song form from the drum pattern layouts and get a clue by trascribing the existing parts. While markers are good for somethings like marking verse1 chorus2 prechorus, The aren't really good for identifying the actual progression.

Sometimes I think track views should have a snap able layer/track that does nothing but show the chord name. So when your trying to record/play you can watch the track view and see what is around the bend.
