Kings and queens by any means.

Ruthless, it seems the perfect scheme

Paint the scene, the trees are green.

Ripe like spring, summer's coming.

But, autumn came and took the sun

Days so long, we thought we'd won.

And fell the leafs from those green trees

We'll miss the touch of summer's breeze.

Taste the snow, the ice is cold

Heavy in the hand it holds.

Wearing gloves, like mother told.

How can winter be this old?

As we dry from the winter wet,

The crown slips from the sunset

And when world is once again in bloom

We'll stop at once and praise the moon.

A really breezy read with lovely imagery. I especially like the third stanza... I've never thought about winter being old, but it got me thinking!

I love nature poetry, and this is no exception. Well written Beth!

Thanks, Timothy! I like the adjective "breezy".
