Writing Melodies

Another tip I learned from Clay Drayton when I took the songwriting seminar with him was this...

The more you do something, the better you get at it. So, every time you see a phrase, or a sign -- put a melody to it. It could be traffic signs, common phrases or headlines. Doing this will sharpen your melody writing skills!

Good tip!

It is amazing how many melodies follow natural speech inflections -when there is a strong accent the note often goes up accordingly -there are of course exceptions -often when the melody goes down on a strong accent -it happens on a strong beat -similarly with a repeated note -well worth studying this.
