I watch the rain pour

From my bedroom's view

Puddles welcome drops,

Just like the doormat.

Bring in the mud that

Disgraces the hardwood

Elicits mother's scowl

And maims the doormat.

I'm not given gumboots

To join the other children

Who splash and drip

On their mother's doormat

I watch the rain pour

From my bedroom's view

I think it was so cruel

That spotless doormat.
