Pa Systems

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping to start going into gig/open mike host territory and I wanted to hear from you guys about portable PA systems you like.

Out of all the open mics I go to, everyone seems to have their own preferred gear and I've pretty much never seen the same setup twice.  Personally, I was thinking about the Fender Passport 300 or maybe even the 500.  I tried the 150 version  and it just didn't have the muscle I needed.

I like Fishman and Bose towers but I don't love them, you know? Not enough Oomph. I like a lot of driving bass.

Anyway, love to hear your thoughts!

Tom

My system is a Mackie DL1608 mixer that runs via ipad controls with three Carvin 900 in-ear monitor transmitters with one of each sub-mix going to one of their stereo inputs. This gives me a total of six individual mono-monitor mixes or three stereo mixes. The FOH is through a DBX RX unit that sets eq, controls feed-back, and optomizes sound for the room. I run below 80hrz to a pair of 18" Peavey sub-woofers and the rest to a pair of 450 watt Mackie powerd speakers.  Takes me less than a half hour to set up and sound chech and less to take down. I can accurately reinforce a solo performer or a six piece band with unbelievable fidelity inmost rooms. Best of all, is that the performers can control their own monitor mix via their smartphone or ipad and all I have to worry about is the front of the house.
