Devolution

The ocean swelled to the point of no land
In a time long ago in a place with no sand
Until darkness had lifted and the Earth had shifted
To fill the lungs of the new and the gifted
Adapt and evolve was the problem to solve
And our heart warmed and thrived as we revolve
In the infinite night surrounded by stars
Dwarfed by Jupiter yet larger than Mars
Cells divide and conquer increasing their mass
They solidify their existence by letting off gas
Ecosystem evolving until the creation of mould
The dawning of new life is a sight to behold

Twisting and turning and absorbing the light
There’s no snake or apple or Adam in sight
Through time and the ages and various stages
Creatures roamed free, never threatened with cages
Growing larger and vicious and truly seditious
Preying on others, learning what life truly is
With nutrition and elements nourishing the brain
The fight began for the top of the food chain
Fighting for what you think is yours, they fight for what is theirs
The victorious will be the one of them that truly dares
To go outside the box, their opponent to be outhinked
If neither can deceive all they’ll achieve is to both end up extinct

And so time goes, men evolve to oppose
Every other living thing on the planet
To kill and maim, acting like they’re insane
To become top of the chain, goddammit!!
And through the millennia, we have learnt
Many ways we can destroy this Earth
No solution with pollution and the land that’s burnt
It won’t be long until we have a rebirth
