A Day Like That

 

Planning for a day

We all hope never comes

When the ocean's fitful patience

Breaks o'er the mortar and stone

When the streets are filled with parents

And the stares of bloodshot eyes

They're all memories you're trying to hold back

But there's no planning for a day like that

 

Cracking like the end

Of the dragons falling tail

When the thunder beats the drum

As lightning calls the hail storm

As the devil heats the down wind

From an angel's beating wing

Well, you feel just like a piece of salted jack

And there's no planning for a day like that

 

Shaking like the pictures

Taken on a holiday

When the walls begin to crumble

Watch the memories fade away

When tomorrow falls unknowing

Swallowed by the greed of time

Even tears and prayers won't be left intact

And there's no planning for a day like that
