Noob With Noob ? And Unsure Where It Belongs

With the exception of a sometimes backup vocal, I do all my own stuff myself. Typically, I have an acoustic guitar, sometimes mandolin, sometimes violin, and bass that I mix on a Boss 900 CD burner. I also have a software program for what I consider to be 'synthetic', canned instruments. My problem is this, I do a lot of venues and my backup vocals has to work a lot and can't make a lot of gigs. Would it be "cheating: for me to use one of the vocal harmonizers for the times that she can't make it? All vocals and acoustic guitar are 'live' with the exception of the vocal harmonizer. I really like the TC Helicon stuff for what it gives me before I even run stuff through the Boss unit. All thoughts appreciated.
