Singers! About developing style..

Hiya guys,

I was wondering if you have any vocal routines, exercises or ideas that you use to develop and embellish the style aspect of singing. It could be about using your voice in creative ways for your vocal runs, a certain aesthetic that defines your voice (for example, Jordan Rakei has this beautiful rapid vibrato in his voice that really makes him shine) or something else.

I've been working on a lot of technique based learning. I'm working on a 6 month course for my students at the school where I teach and in the process have made rapid progress while researching on the most comfortable and efficient way to sing. And now I'm looking over the various stylistic elements of this beautiful instrument called the voice.

I'm developing my ears to catch intervals quicker and better. So an exercise that I thought of is to do vocal exercises where you sing the chord voicings of a progression. Can start with simple ones with straight major and minor chords, inversions of the same and then move to more complex voicings. I think that will help me in improvising and embellishing my lines better knowing what my options are to freak out.

Anyways, looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Mahesh
