Nature is my Second Home

Recommended Posts

I’ve always focused on writing more lyrics than poetry, so I surprised myself as I was coming up with this. At first I wanted to change it so I would be able to turn it into some kind of song. Ultimately I decided that if this was going to be a poem, that is what it will be, and I wasn’t going to fight against my creative conscience.

The words are inspired from a walk in my local park, which dates back over 600 years.

Nature is my second home,

I love to walk in its glory,

its beauty,

its mystery,

tall towering oaks that harken back centuries

Oh the memories they have stored in their vast trunks!

Nodding their silent heads as I pass

Nothing is as quiet as nature -

in all the noise,

the hustle,

the bustle,

when life always wants us to be going somewhere

nature allows us to just exist for a moment

and breathe.

...until we are ready to get back in the fray.

Oh my goodness Nathan, I love this! I'm very much nature oriented in general, any lyrics about trees, wind etc. just touch my soul. This is beautiful. I love these lines in particular:

"tall towering oaks that harken back centuries"

"Nodding their silent heads as I pass"

the word "trunks" somehow sticks out for me, I'm trying to think of a more poetic synonym but nothing comes to mind!
