Crossroads (Cream) - cover

Hi.

This was instigated by my Prescient (2015) collaborator Martin Hale,  he of the great guitar licks.   He chose the song and the version (a 2010 live Clapton performance which was slower than Cream's 1968 original on "Wheels of Fire").

Martin used the audio to create the song template (tempo, bars, verses, breaks, etc.) that he sent me.

I laid down drums, bass, piano and organ over the structure and sent him back the MIDI stems.

Martin then did the lead and rhythm guitars, vocal and additional percussion.  The mix is 100% his baby as I didn’t want any decision-making pressure.

I would have enjoyed creating the backing vocals, but Martin was adamant he didn’t want any at all.

final version (update Jan 5, 2022)

It’s fun and focuses the mind for an hour or two, and it feeds the friendship.  But doing straight covers just doesn’t grab me any more.   And comfortably well-off white guys doing “Blues” is just laughable.

We’ve agreed to tackle David Gilmour’s “On An Island” next.

Cheers,

Greg
