WHAT exactly is included in "Production"

PRODUCTION..... ooh-wee!  What a large word, but who really knows what it means, music-wise?

A guy watching over the recording-process?

Someone to hold the "artists" hand on a moment of grief?

Someone to persuade The Band NOT to drink exessively, at least while the recording of the album is still "in the process"...

OR something else?

I think you have it right. A producer oversees & makes creative decisions about the recordings. However.... It varies a great deal. Concider Geoge Martin & the Beatles. George was the man in every respect in the early days. He even decided who would and would not play! What songs were included, which songs were chucked out. Hiring strings to sweeten balads etc. but by the time Sgt. Pepper came along, his role was to support and help realise the ideas of the band. But he was still the producer. Its a flexible role.
