Carefully... There's nothing worse than getting a flawless recording after twelve takes that sounds great through the monitors, and then realising that your level to tape was poorly set up and that you'll have to do the thing again because the tape trim is pegged at zero dB and has horrible digital clipping...

Sure there is, having the best gain staging possible and pristine audio quality on a track that sounds "tired".
