Ever built a mic pre?

Just wondering if any members have ever purchased one of the mic pre kits and put it together?  If so what was the outcome?

Not a pre made.... a kit to assemble yourself.  Did I misunderstand you?

I guess there are a few kits out on the market with high dollar parts you can assemble yourself and cut costs.  I wouldn't want to buy one that was assembled by someone else either.

As a gutarist, I used to buy kits for guitar effects pedals. Without exception, every pedal I made was of an inferior quality. Most likely down to cheap components!

Sorry, I meant a kit of components including prefabricated circuit boards etc. You may save a little by self assembly, but I haven't seen a kit yet that beats the commercial packages.

Add to that, if you are not that familiar with a soldering iron, and you don't have all the right tools, it's easy to make a mess of it.
