Insomnia

As darkness falls so does your guard

Being alone at night can be hard

Knowing what the night brings

A mirage of thoughts and things

Lost loved ones, bites and stings

Friends forever lost in the void

The void that is your past

Necklaces and diamond rings

Waterfalls and natural springs

All these thoughts enter your head

As you lay awake in bed

As the morning breaks

Still you lie awake

As the whirlpool of images

Go round and round

Inside out and upside down

Left and right, too and throw

They can’t and will not let go

Wild dreams and childish schemes

Run in your mind like a cinema screen

Pictures and sound clear as a day

Just wish they would go away

As the late morning comes your way

So begins another day

Time to mingle with the crowd

Time for hustle in a street that’s too loud

Time for hope that better luck comes your way

To keep the reels of visions

That at night come your way

wow as a fellow insomniac, it speaks volumes to me. very well written. i love the last stanza. the whole poem has a forward motion to it but atthe end, you know it will go back to the begnning again. great job
