The panel is not its own instrument. It's 4 Quneos attached to an acrylic panel that I put together myself. I put velcro tape to attach the Quneos to the panel so that I can remove them if I need to. Very solid.
The Quneos are basically a super MIDI controller and they are controlling the synth instruments within Ableton 9. I built some instruments (sounds) myself by following youtube tutorials and tweaking some of the presets. Then I created 1 midi track for each Quneo. (4 Midi tracks total) Within each respective midi track, I put in an instrument rack, which basically allows you to drop in as many instruments as you want. I dropped in the 12 sounds I built. (4 different instruments or sounds on each of the four midi tracks) I'm mostly using Analog & Operator (Two synths that come with Ableton Suite).
Each Quneo is able to control an unlimited number of instruments but 12 is more than enough. As I continue to build sounds, my instrument racks will expand. I have a lot to do in my "to do" list first. I still have to incorporate the launchpad into the mix by having it control live drums samples, loops, and clip packs (dj effects that run over time for a specified number of bars).
Right now, I have 4 different sounds that I'm happy with for each Quneo. I'm trying to keep it simple. (The on/off buttons for each respective instrument are assigned to the APC40) This allows me to switch instruments with the push of a button for each Quneo.
Does that answer the question?
It is a lot of fun to just jam.
