I need to slow down..

With the new release activities in full motion, I realized how much I've worn myself out right at the beginning of the year. With classes through the day taking a significant amount of physical and mental energy, my OCD mind has been overwhelmed lately with so much to do - website, social media, recording, demos, mailing list, Songstuff, music production.

I'm not exactly complaining since I do this full time and pretty much signed up for all that being a musician entails. But I need to do that while learning how to slow down. Time to get back to a Tiny Tune routine soon. Hopefully.

@Mahesh I wrote a post in Musicians Lounge about this last year.  Before I got Covid in early 2020 I was a session player and never did anything except play.  Now I cannot play at my previous level and had to retire from studio paying although I still hold my union membership.

This whole experience is new to me except for websites.  I had never used a DAW before last Summer.  The concept of recording without other musicians had never crossed my mind.

We are always learning. Adapting. Failing to do either has issues written all over it.

In truth overwork often finds us spinning our wheels mid-air. Ensuring you take regular breaks recharges those batteries. Running on empty will have you injuring yourself or making a mistake that blows up in your face. Better to ensure you have the discipline to take breaks. Practices like mindfulness, yoga and Tai Chi are all great daily exercises. Tai Chi is probably the best for an over stressed, can’t stop mind. Regular mindful moments are particularly useful  in combination with longer daily sessions of almost all kinds of relaxation techniques.

Personally, I find perspective is everything.

When I'm struggling with 'keeping up', I remind myself that I have a roof over my head, food on the table, a few friends I trust and can rely on, some things I can truly laugh at, and I enjoy music and also creating it regardless whether anyone else ever hears it.

I'm NOT in a war zone, or drowning in my own lung fluids, and am generally well in mind and body.  Other problems pale by comparison!
