    This is my favorite.
  2. Lyrics on the brian. What fun it would be to get a typewriter ... hmm

  3. Looking forward to a long day of music =)

  4. Ahh, baptism by fire-- it's the best. Treat your practice as an athlete or dancer would . Warm up the left hand gently to preserve endurance. I'm a double bassist and this is paramount. Don't abuse your joints or muscles. Try to make your chord changes smooth, speed will come in time. Best of luck.
  5. One thing I have learned is to never judge a book by it's cover. Tuff looking guys often have the sweetest hearts. (but not always)
  6. Just posted song which is most dear to my heart. If you want to understand who MissMartha is, check out my song Music Man.

I haven't had a chance to listen to it (I'm at work), but I'm in love with the lyrics! Can't wait to take the moment and get the full experience :)

  7. For me it's ALWYS lyrics first. I am an English major and a writer through and through. I'm also very passionate about good songs, I mean all my life, at any time, I can get stuck on a new song or an oldie and listen to it 10-15 times a day and have emotional climaxes each time. So when I sit down to write a song, the seed is always a cool phrase or an original metaphor I want to share. I usually can "hear" it pretty quick like you Rippinlyricist. Then I have to force myself to pick up a guitar or some other instrument and work out a bare bones music idea. I think the "lyrics first" types are more rare. =)
  8. I have conceded I need a better guitar as I have cracked the saddle on the old Mexican guitar my dad loaned me. Aghhh, one thing always leads to another in this uphill climb. At least my calluses are coming along nicely. Now if I can carve out some time this week to work on new stuff.

  9. I've conceded that I need to pick up the acoustic guitar if I am to write songs. Trying to get use to new calluses is always fun.

ah the joy of sore fingers! The more you practice the more it hurts, but the sooner that pain will pass.

  10. Life stopped cause I hosted a party yesterday. Can't wait to get back to work with full use of teeth!

  11. Pencil and paper. A note book where anything goes, free writing to the max. Another note book for clean, complete versions. Another digital file for refining the meter and more technical side of writing. Then sing the spit out of it, loud, proud and alone for flow, and revise, revise...
  12. John your voice has a lot of emotion, (the kind girls like) wink wink. Keep on keeping on...

  15. not bad for someone who has no teaching. It seems to me you are putting just as much heart into this song as gaga. Too bad for the static. I once read a bio on an opera singer and she said that she would imagine her head full of holes which light would beam out. Maybe try this visualization to release muscular tension in the head. (my 2 cents--im no teacher) =) Can only get better. Nice job.
  16. First impression: Reminds me of the band Little Wings and Dylan. Was it inspired by the song "Farewell Angelina?'
  17. it grew on me over time. Enjoyed the voice and instrumentation. Unique. Thoughtful. I'm on the fence about the sound effects though.
  18. Thanks John for creating this site. We are all in debt to you.
