I engineer in a studio and often work with people who've tracked at home or some other location and want to mix in a kitted out control room. Or also the other way round, tracking drums in the studio and giving them the audio to record other parts etc. It has to be said, mixing is more straightforward through real gear with voltages rather than digital bits that pretend to be! With recording, now that everyone has access to a certain level of technology there are naturally more options and recording music is an organic process where the best takes can happen anywhere. I think we should encourage this flexibility of working and let the music dictate what's best to do.
