  1. I'm currently listening to this ...it's absolutely brilliant. Seriously.
  2. The Number Of The Beast - Iron Maiden
  3. River Man - Nick Drake Just found the Peel Session for this... Reminding me that a truly great song is there without the production.
  4. Me And My Desire - 999 (an older friend gave me this on 7" along with Take Me I'm Yours by Squeeze, because he'd decided they weren't punk enough...1978 I was a little kid...I think they were probably the first two records I ever 'owned'... like anyone wanted to know all that...soz )
  5. Prostitute Poem - Gong To my Ears, way ahead of their time... Love it! (Starts about 1:15 into this)
  6. That's the good thing about this game... makes me listen to songs I love and don't listen to enough, and maybe find some new ones to love... Haven't heard this in years. I used to listen to it every day... and the club we used to go to would go wild when this came on... thanks for the reminder!
  7. Probably my favourite song and performance of all... Small Hours - John Martyn
  8. Cheap link but...one of my all time favourite songs Pink Orange Red - Cocteau Twins
  9. Good chance to link to a great song! Love this! Mercury Dime - Death Vessel
  10. This might be cheating, but I love this album Now Is The Happiest Time Of Your Life - Daevid Allen
  11. I'll get it back on track linking... with another HUGE favourite band of mine... and a great example of making it in the biz on your own terms! Paper Monkeys / Ozric Tentacles
  12. Probably. What I mean is, it all comes down to songs. That's one reason I posted the Vince Clarke interview on another thread...different artist but no doubt influenced them and most synth pop artists. Vince writes all his songs on an acoustic guitar. Getting some nice synth sounds is the easy bit. Writing melodies like The Knife is harder than it seems, without just straight up copying...partly down to where they're from too I imagine...and her strange voice... anyway, getting a bit off the topic of song titles aren't we lol ... I better stop.
  13. Getting the sounds isn't a problem, well... they spend a lot of time developing their own synth sounds rather than out of the box so it's a factor...but the issue is writing great songs in that style, without copying, they write great pop songs with a really unusual twist. Their songs crossover to acoustic anyway, as proven by Jose Gonzalez cover of their 'Heartbeats' ... the synth sounds are really the least of the problem
  14. Sounds easy doesn't it? Lol... it's not...I've tried. I know, I have a lot of their albums...I think they've split up now.
  15. The absolutely brilliant... Forest Families - The Knife
  16. It's a crap obvious link but I LOVE this song Gangsters - The Specials
  17. I was going to damn it... and now I can't because somebody said I should... and it's bugging me too!
  18. I think 'pop' has gone down hill because of what becomes 'pop' rather than the standard of songs generally, and maybe outside of pop there's nothing quite so good as the old greats.... but I don't think we should take what's on typical radio as the standard. Still great music being made, just a bit harder to find. Although I think there are still great pop songs being written to be honest... a lot of crap but still good ones... And the charts have always had something crappy in them, Black Lace sold a shed load of records! It's a matter of taste too eh...we're not all alike There's been some fantastic new music made over the last few years.
