  1. Hey, Thanks for the reply! Yeah, i have an acoustic. See, i have been thinking of using my hand in that position (as if i'm holding a pic but i'm not). So when your hand is in that position, do you go down the strings with the nail of the thumb or with the flesh of the side of the thumb? And vice versa for the index finger when coming up?I keep getting a loud buzzy noise from which is caused by the nail's hitting the strings as i strum
  2. haha, well it's because i just wanna be able to play if a situation arose where a pick was not available. I haven't got anything against picks
  3. Thumb edge as in the flesh, right? Right now, i have got my fingers in a a sort of "ok, super mario position)
  4. That's the thing. I can do it with my fingernails but i don't really like the sound...it's too sharp? If i were to use the soft edge of my thumb to come down, what do i use to come up? which part or finger?
  5. hey guys, Does anyone know how i can strum without a pick? I am having troubles finding a way to strum without a pick. Or does anyone have a video or link which demonstrates how to? And i am referring to just strumming basic chords without a pick Thanks
  6. Hey, Thanks for the reply. Hmm, i sort of get where your coming from with reference to poetry but how will it help get better at rapping? Justt by reading poems over and over?
  7. Hi guys, i know this sort of thread has probably been made countless times but i really couldn't find the exact thing i was looking for. Anyways, here goes. So yeah, i want to get into rapping. Has anyone got any advice as to where or how i can start my journey apart from obviously listening to loads of rap. Also, would you guys suggest that i learn to freestyle off the spot first, before learning how to write raps or should i do a bit of both at first? As mentioned in my previous threads, i am occasionally song write and i have noticed that written songs and written raps are very different in the way, they are written or said out. Like i don't know if it's just me but whenever i listen to rap, it always sounds like the guy rapping is, rapping in a tense where it's like they are talking to the listener where as singing is more of a variety but less in the sense of talking...not sure if you guys get where i am coming from lol. I am just not sure how to write or say raps..like do i speak in a past tense or in a present tense...I am not too sure, if i am getting myself across properly....Hopefully, someone gets where i am coming from ha Also, i am not too sure if i posted this in one of my previous threads but has anyone got any tips as to how i can improve my metaphors? I seem to be coming up with the same ones all the time..or ones that sound more or less the same.. Thanks!
  8. Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to post this, so might have posted this in another sub section :s. Anyways, i have always admired the lyrics of my favorite artists and have always wanted to write songs as great as theirs. I understand, that i will never be able to write in the same exact as Bob dylan, John legend,Adele etc, however i would like to write in a similar style as theirs or near as great as theirs. I have got this idea in my head that if i pick a song from each of my fav artists, every single day and try and write in a similar style as they did in that song, eventually i would develop my own style as a mixture of trying to imitate a range of my favorite artists song writing styles - basically a mixture of each. I have tried to test out this exercise over the past few days and i have been unable to even a produce a similar line off one of my fav artists songs. It's just too hard as it's virtually impossible to channel John mayer through me for just that 40 mins of the exercise haha. I am a firm believer in that in order to learn something, some sort of imitation has to be used in order for you to develop your own style. When i wanted to learn how to sing as a kid, i would imitate all my fav artists and eventually, i discovered my own voice which has a mixture of all the artists i used to try and imitate as a kid. I am not aiming to become the next so and so or try and produce lyrics the same as so and so. I just wanna be able to develop my own personal style inspired by fav artists...Has anyone got any tips or exercises that i could use? Thanks!
