  1. I offer drum recordings online and in my opinion a drum machine can never truly replicate the feel of a drummer but saying that you can achieve good results using samplers like superior drummer and addictive drums. If you needed any advice please get in touch.

  2. I really admire you for deciding to focus purely on songwriting, its a bold step but im sure your brain will thank you for being able to focus rather than have the distraction of engineering if you feel its what you want to do!

I am regularly changing the "hat" i wear from teaching, gigging, recording drums and also writing material. I quite enjoy the fact it always keeps things fresh but it can be hard to really separate them allowing me to really focus on what will benefit me most at the time.

Hope it works out well for you

  3. Ive heard good things about the apogee interfaces, i think if you only need two inputs that would be a great way to go. Personally ive used the M audio fast track pro which to me seems like the best of the bunch and good value for money for a two input interface.

I personally use a presonus firestudio as im often using 6-8 inputs, i really like the fact theres a possibility of running 10 inputs on this interface and that you can switch the phantom power in pairs.

  4. As drummer in this modern age i find its a key part of my practice. It really helps you realise what sort of tempo ranges you feel more familiar in. I try and make a note of tempos where i feel less confident to try and work on building that up. When it comes to recording i much prefer recording to a click, it allows for more flexibility when editing and layering up multiple instruments. I see what people have mentioned above about how it can suck the soul out of a performance. My advice would be more to use it as a guide, rather than trying to make sure every note lines up perfectly. The sound of the metronome can really change how you feel about it, i cant stand the "beep" sort of sound. I tend to use the rimclick on a snare drum.

    Hope that helps
