  1. Realism matters to two 'entities'. You, and your 'audience'. If you are happy with what you are creating, that's great. But, you can't expect your audience to be as impressed with your work as you are, if they want to see a live band (even if most of them do not know what's going on 'behind the scenes'), to make the band sound like they do. And then you have to ask, where is the 'purity line' drawn? I agree that a much younger generation will not care. But, I've seen die-hard traditionalist bluegrass fans go NUTS because something wasn't 'traditional' (two mics instead of one, an electric bass instead of bass fiddle). One day I watched almost 20 percent of an audience get up and walk out on an international star when his sound crew started setting up for his set. If it makes you happy, go for it. If you are trying to make others happy, give it some thought.
  2. Thanks to all for all the advise I've received (and enlightenment). Pays to read ( Heck, I've had this thing OVER a year and just found a 250+ page manual for its use. And at 2:00 a.m. I had an epiphany. This software (for me) is for recording MY instruments, our live vocals and putting all of that together either as a CD, MP3 , or, whatever else is there I haven't 'found' yet. Again, thanks for dealing with the village idiot for a day or two, I think I've got it now...
  3. I see the Boss as an obsolete tool now. It was great for portability prior to laptops and a lack of what today is sophisticated software vs. the old Boss Portable Recording studio, and trying to mix down a simple 4 to 8 track "live" gig was a PITA, to say the least. I have a lot to learn about the mixcraft pro 6, but it is so intuitive, there's no comparison with the old Boss. BUT, what I don't like about the mixcraft at this point in time (and it is probably due to my ignorance with the system) is the lack of existing library selection. As an example, last night I was looking for a country acoustic guitar, found one, it was only in C (maj or min, can't remember for sure) with 16 bars, tempo of 123. I would like MORE available in different keys, tempos, etc. (maybe it is and I don't know it?). Seems to be a LOT of 'sounds" in the library, but nothing I wanna put into a song (construction sounds, kitchen sounds, etc. Still going through various acoustica sites to learn as much as I can about this software, just too dumb to do much with it at the moment. Oh, and I did go to the site you mentioned yesterday, will be hanging out there some to learn.
  4. I'm about 'due' for a new computer. Thinking about something dedicated to just music. ??
  5. TapperMike, thanks for posting this link. I was up WAY past my bedtime last night reloading my mixcraft pro 6software on the same computer I'd tried it on before. I got 'lucky' and found much of what your link mentions and was able to improve the performance of the mixcraft greatly. I have windows 7, so set it to waveRT and man, I had a blast! Man you shoulda heard the 12 bar blue riff I laid down. My lady was like, 'Holy Crap!, you wanna have sex or something? (I kept playing with the mixcraft instead....). Looking forward to playing with this in the near future. Hell, I'd pay good money to a mixcraft specialist to learn more about this (about a $1.50) . JK, good stuff and thanks again.
  6. Meant to stop in here yesterday, but got busy. I bought MixCraft Pro 6 over a year ago. Seemed somewhat self intuitive to an old curmudgeon like me, but it seemed to mess with my computer. If I went online i had issues. Anyone else experience this, or was it just me or my then-new laptop? thanks, gotta go to the salt mines now.
  7. With the exception of a sometimes backup vocal, I do all my own stuff myself. Typically, I have an acoustic guitar, sometimes mandolin, sometimes violin, and bass that I mix on a Boss 900 CD burner. I also have a software program for what I consider to be 'synthetic', canned instruments. My problem is this, I do a lot of venues and my backup vocals has to work a lot and can't make a lot of gigs. Would it be "cheating: for me to use one of the vocal harmonizers for the times that she can't make it? All vocals and acoustic guitar are 'live' with the exception of the vocal harmonizer. I really like the TC Helicon stuff for what it gives me before I even run stuff through the Boss unit. All thoughts appreciated. Dan
