  1. Thanks a lot everyone. This is really great. I can just sit back and take in all of the wisdom here.
  2. Hey John. Actually Danke means thanks in German. Great points you bring up.
  3. I've been working on lyrics for a song and have just been writing stuff down randomly. When I go back and read through what I've written its almost all cliche. Some worse than others. What are you people doing to avoid cliche? Danke.
  4. Hi Lisha, For me, writing lyrics has been strongly tied to life experiences. In general, "bigger" experiences have equaled better lyrics Wishing you success in your lyric writing endeavors!
  5. Hi Steve, You don't need to know anything about music to write lyrics. Just find someone who is good at writing melody and chord progressions and you're good to go. Personally, I almost never write like that. The music comes before the words but there are plenty of people who do. Wishing you success!
  6. Hi Thecha, Thanks for starting such a lively discussion.
  7. Very nice work Fernando! See you around. :note: Paul
  8. Hi everyone, My name is Paul, I'm 47 and live way out in sticksville USA. I started writing and performing mainly acoustic guitar songs 8 years ago. Biggest influences are '60's and '70's bands/artists. Been mainly self taught though I've had a few lessons. I also play a little piano but I'm far and away a better guitar player. I'm really focusing on improving my songwriting skills now. My biggest challenges are writing good melodies, lyrics and chord progressions Seriously, chord progressions seem to be my biggest challenge. So I'm going to start dissecting my favorite music to find out "what makes it tic". Am also going to start learning more about music theory and chords. I really want to get into a band or some kind of collaboration but I live way out in the sticks about 100 miles from Chicago or Indianapolis so its a challenge. Any way, I'm looking forward to learn and contributing here. Here's some of my tuneage: http://soundcloud.com/paul-ladendorf Cheers!
